Kokille.

Mold.
Chills made of cast iron have the disadvantage that they tear and therefore become unusable after a short time. In order to extend their useful life, it has already been proposed to give them a steel jacket. In the known designs, in which the jacket is only folded over and tightened by wedges, there are still gaps between the bodies and the purpose is insufficiently fulfilled. According to the present invention, the two parts are united by casting around them or pulling them up in such a way that a coherent whole is created. The iron mold alone cannot expand at any point, the jacket always works immediately. This makes tearing completely impossible.
In the drawing, an example embodiment of the new mold is shown, where a denotes the inner and b the outer part. First, the inner part is made of cast iron in the usual way by casting in the mold and with a space corresponding to the size of the steel block. For the production of the outer part b, for example, two versions are provided. The first consists in inserting the inner part produced for yourself in a correspondingly wider mold and encasing it with a steel jacket. The other version consists of pulling a cast steel jacket onto the inner part that has been made glowing before use.
The encapsulated form makes it possible that the iron soul can be taken very thinly, so to speak, that it only needs to be a skin. On the other hand, removing the soul again is very cumbersome here and one must reckon with the fact that the form as a whole will immediately become unusable if it has served its purpose after a long time. The drawn-up form demands a thicker soul, because otherwise the latter cannot withstand the enormous tension that the contracting coat creates. Instead, it is more possible to change the soul here. One becomes the soul
