Electric liquid heater.
Up to now, electric liquid heaters and kettles have been designed in such a way that a mica or micanite layer, which was arranged on the body to be heated and carried a winding made of nickel-containing substances or platinum, usually served as the support for the heating winding. Now nickel-containing resistance materials and mica can hardly be obtained. In addition, mica is a very impenetrable substance for both thermal conduction and thermal radiation. As a result, the resistance wires had to be operated at temperatures that are usually higher than 11,000 and often reach 14 to 15,000. The lifespan of the devices was therefore very short. If it went dry, even temporarily, the resistance burned out infallibly.
The present invention aims to provide an electrical heating device which operates with a low temperature gradient, so that ordinary iron wire, aluminum wire or copper wire can be used in place of the high-quality alloys. The temperature of the wire can be kept so low that cotton, silk or lacquer enamel can easily be used as insulation.
To achieve this, the arrangement is made in such a way that the heat from the winding is transferred through a special metal intermediate body to the liquid to be heated by conduction, which is designed so that its parts have a large surface against air. This ensures that when the device is filled with water, the temperature gradient against the liquid is so great that only little heat is given off to the surfaces in contact with the air; but if there is no water in the device, the temperature of the metal mass increases only slightly. because the resulting heat is immediately removed from the surfaces by the air cooling that then takes effect.
The drawing shows an embodiment of one according to the concept of the invention
EMI1.1
A body a closed at the bottom is provided as a water container and is bypassed by a second cylindrical body b, to which it is connected by a larger number of ribs c. These ribs form channels d which are open at the top and bottom so that the air can pass through them. The winding e is arranged on the outer cylinder body and consists of enamelled iron wire or copper wire spun with cotton. Aluminum wire with oxide insulation can also be used.
The heat generated in the winding is given off to the cylindrical body b and transferred to the inner body a through the ribs c. As long as it is filled with water. the heat migrates in the direction of the greatest temperature gradient towards the water. The channels d are only slightly heated. As a result, the efficiency of the device is very high and, according to tests, exceeds go v. H.
But if the inner cylinder a is not filled with water for any reason, the temperature of the walls rises so high that the resulting amount of heat ap is given off into the air. The channel-shaped formation has the consequence that the air sweeps lively over the surfaces at considerable speed. making such a good one

Cooling effect is achieved that the winding is not damaged despite its insulation, which is only suitable for lower temperatures. The device works dry to a certain extent as a warm air oven.
Another advantage of this arrangement is that, due to the metal mass, the heat absorption capacity is so great that when the device goes dry, so much heat also occurs

are close to the boiling point, is heated. The device can easily be used as a kettle, but also as a flow device or heat storage device. Suitable pipes are to be provided for this purpose, generally three pipes, one of which serves as a water inlet, the second as an overflow, while the third pipe is used to completely empty the inner boiler. Another application
EMI2.2
Uses more.
It is essential for the device that a resistance material can be used which does not have to have high temperature resistance. If you take iron, you have the advantage that, as a result of the high temperature coefficient, when you go dry, your performance decreases by itself. The insulation material does not need to be more heat-resistant than cotton. In spite of this substantial simplification, the device is not damaged even after weeks of uninterrupted drying.
The arrangement of the winding does not need to be circular; for example, wound coils can also be used, in which the heat is transferred to the body to be heated by special metal bodies, which are used either as heat conductors or as heat emitters.
Such a radiator is created when you use the

Iron cores are set and these are sheathed with the winding coils, the coils then being connected or switched in a known manner.
Under the plate-shaped body a, opposite the rib-like parts c, special cooling fins or the like can be provided, which increase the transfer of heat to the water when the water is heated and the transfer of heat to the air when the device dries out. In particular, when using coil winding, one is completely free with regard to the design of the device.
