Die Erfindung betrifft Kohlenelektroden, welche mit aus einem Metallband bestehenden Kontaktfahnen versehen sind ; zur Sicherung dieser, naturgemäss leicht dem Abbrechen ausgesetzten Fahnen wurde vorgeschlagen, dieselben durch galvanische Verkupferung, durch Schweissen, Löten, durch Spritzverfahren oder durch einen die Elektrode umfassenden schmalen Ring zu befestigen, doch haben sich diese Defestigungsmethoden als ungenügend erwiesen, weil sie das Loslösen der Fahne während des Abbrennens nicht verhindern konnten.
