Process for preparing iron and metal shavings for hot briquetting.

If you want to bring iron, steel or other metal chips for the purpose of hot briquetting to the appropriate high temperature, which is between 750 and 10,000 C for iron and steel, then there is a risk that the chips will be transferred from the furnace greedily absorb oxygen into the mold and that both a considerable loss of metal occurs and the strength of the briquettes suffers, which reduces their value.

The present invention aims to overcome these difficulties in the hot briquetting of chips, and achieves the purpose in that the chips which are subjected to briquetting during their heating to the briquetting temperature, due to the special way in which this heating is carried out, so strongly with a reducing which adheres firmly to them Gas layer are encased so that the movement through the air does not damage them when transferring them into the mold. This wrapping of the chips in a shell of reducing gas can be achieved in a simple manner by placing the chips in a reducing fire through a tube furnace in countercurrent to the fire.

   ('ase come from the briquette.

A rotary kiln suitable for carrying out the process with a fixed kiln head at the outlet end of the kiln is shown schematically in the drawing.

The stovepipe is labeled A. The fixed, closed furnace head upstream of the furnace outlet end bears the designation B. In the lower wall of the furnace head there is the outlet opening C for the piles in the furnace head

The chips removed from the furnace are transported by the feeding trolley E to the location of the compacting device, where they are transferred into the mold for the chip briquettes to be produced.
