Pistons for internal combustion engines.
The pistons of the internal combustion engines are designed without special cooling devices for the piston crown for smaller cylinder passages and for high-speed machines. The piston crown is therefore only cooled indirectly by the cooling water of the cylinder. The heat flows from the piston crown through the material to the cylinder wall and passes from there to the cooling water.
The middle part of the piston head, which is furthest away from the cooled cylinder walls, is not adequately protected from overheating because the heat it absorbs is accumulated in the outer, likewise heated parts of the piston head.
The known piston crowns therefore become impermissibly hot in their central part and tend to crack due to the high thermal stresses.
The invention relates to the dissipation of heat from the piston crown by means of a special heat conductor which is arranged on the underside of the piston crown. The heat conductor is dimensioned in such a way that there is a sufficient flow cross-section for all parts of the piston head and the heat can flow away from the piston head to the cylinder wall in the flow paths assigned to it without congestion.
The new piston is described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2.
In a cylinder b, which is cooled by the coolant (}, the piston a slides with its skirt.f. The piston head d delimiting the combustion chamber, which is shown as a flat plate in the exemplary embodiment, can also have any other shape, the skirt f of the piston a is expediently made of smoothly sliding material, for example cast iron, the testicle d is made of the same material as the shaft f or, with regard to strength, is made of steel These embodiments are known.
The invention relates to the heat conductor e, which is located on the underside of the
Piston head d is arranged in the interior of the piston in such a way that the heat absorbed by the piston head d passes into the heat conductor e and flows away from it as a result of the temperature gradient to the cylinder wall. The process of heat flow is shown in Fig. 1 by arrow lines. The heat flows out of the individual parts of the piston crown in the direction of the largest temperature vessel and therefore mainly enters the heat conductor from the central part of the piston head (tuber, the shape of the heat conductor r influences the heat dissipation.
The more the cross-section of the heat conductor increases from the piston section towards the shaft, the greater the amount of heat flowing out of the center of the base. In order to obtain good heat transfer in the contact surfaces of the heat conductor e, the end and cylinder surfaces of the heat conductor can also be grooved instead of being grooved, with the grooves being given play in the direction of extension of the contacting parts in order to prevent thermal stresses.
The arrangement of a special heat conductor e on the underside of the piston crown, which relates to the concept of the invention, offers the following advantages over the known types of piston attachment:
The construction material of the piston crown can be chosen as desired and the thickness of the piston hollow can be reduced because the heat conductor can also be used to support the crown. As the soil thickness decreases, the temperature differences in the soil decrease and the risk of cracking decreases accordingly.
The heat conductor arranged under the piston, which is made of highly conductive building material, creates sufficient dissipation cross-sections for the heat absorbed by the soil while maintaining the lower soil thickness, which is favorable for strength.
The invention can be used for single-acting and double-acting pistons.
