Schneckengetriebe.

Worm gear.
The subject of the present invention relates to a worm gear with variable transmission, in which several worms with different pitch or direction of their gears are arranged displaceably one behind the other on a shaft and can be brought into engagement alternately in a worm wheel. In the present invention, a rotatable push rod is now arranged on such a worm gear, which brings the worms into the engagement position when turning, or removes them from this position and moves the worms on their shafts with longitudinal displacement.
At the same time, the rotation can lock the screws against unwanted axial displacement.

Worms act in reverse driving on the worm wheel, for which reason a connection between the worm gear and the drive machine was not shown in the drawing.
Instead of rollers 14, ball bearings can also be used for mounting the toothed journals.
The worm gear described above is particularly suitable for motor vehicles because of its high efficiency and noiseless gear and can be inserted directly into the rear wheel
