the position is made possible that the device has assumed during the said time in relation to the vertical. The pointer 7 should expediently be provided with a guide which prevents the pointer from rotating about its longitudinal se in relation to the tube 3.
Channels are provided between the pipes 2 and 3 on the one hand and the casing 1 on the other hand, through which water let into the drill pipe and the casing 1 can pass into the space 20 between the pistons 10 and 11.
When using the device described, one proceeds in such a way that the direction of the borehole in sections, starting from the upper part thereof, which is known in the direction. is determined. The device, together with its tension wires, is inserted into the drill pipe and, at the same time as the latter, is lowered into the borehole, so that the upper tension wire is located in the part of the borehole known in its direction. If the extension of the borehole deviates from this direction, the Bohrrohjr is crimped accordingly. The

To note this angle, the borehole is filled with water, whereupon the pistons 10, 11 are pressed inward by hydraulic means by the high pressure exerted on the water at the mouth of the borehole, with the tips of the

the locations of these impressions can. knowing the dimensions of the device, the angle. which the two tension wires have formed with each other in the borehole, can easily be calculated and thus also the size of the deviation can be determined which the borehole has in the lower half of the examined part in relation to the upper half, known from its position.
In order to be able to determine the absolute direction of the lower half of the examined borehole part, one must also know the inclination of this direction to the perpendicular. This inclination is determined by means of the etched tube 18, in which the liquid surface is always positioned horizontally, so that the inclination of the tube axis to the liquid surface, i. H. to the horizontal plane by means of which the etched area can be determined. By also having the relative position of the upper edge of the etched surface and that of the indentation in the lead plate? J taken into account, the absolute direction of the borehole along the path corresponding to the wire 9 can be determined.
The same procedure is used for the next measurement, the part determined earlier forming the known route and the direction of the next route being determined.
