 EMI2.1
the bound silent acid and acetic acid appear necessary, then it is stirred for a long time, about an hour, at ordinary temperature, possibly with cooling so that the temperature of 300 ° C. is not exceeded.

It appears essential here that the addition of acid must be sufficient to liberate the bound sulfurous acid and acetic acid as completely as possible.

Naturally, you can increase the acid addition accordingly if you want to insoluble precipitate the remaining dissolved lime, which is mostly bound to organic acids; but this latter purpose can also be achieved by using soluble salts, such as sulfates, phosphates, oxalates, etc., which, through alternating conversion, yield insoluble lime compounds.

After stirring, the precipitated, crystalline gypsum is separated by means of filter presses or similar devices and the liquid is then evaporated in vacuum apparatus in one or more phases to the desired concentration.

If one works in one phase, then the deposition of the crystalline gypsum makes itself very unpleasantly noticeable as the concentration progresses through strong pushing of the liquid and intensive incrustation of the heating tubes; It is therefore advisable to achieve the concentration in at least two phases by first evaporating to a density of 16-180 Beaumé, separating the excreted gyps using filter presses and then continuing to boil the liquid in a vacuum to the final concentration.

     PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Process for the production of tannin extracts with 28-30p Beaumé from sulphite-oil-liquor by evaporation in a vacuum in one or more phases. characterized in that this lye, prior to its evaporation, is treated with zinc dust and at least as much sulfuric acid or another stronger acid as is required to free the bound sulfurous acid and acetic acid contained in the lyes, with prolonged stirring.
