Addiermaschine.

Adding machine.
The invention relates to an adding machine and has the purpose of creating a machine that is so small and compact that it can be placed with ease on the book or paper with the given numbers and in this position can add up the rows of numbers, but but has all the facilities which are necessary to carry out both the addition and the printing of the result correctly.
The machine contains a mechanism for power transmission and motion conversion, an addition device with safety device and a printing mechanism in separate compartments on a base plate with openings through which the printing wheels print the total number.
The numeric keys are arranged in transverse rows of three keys each, and each key can set a common power transmission mechanism in motion which, by means of a rotating gear train, turns a wheel selected from the numeric wheels and also the associated numeric pressure wheel. Each row of keys causes the force transmission means, for example a slide, to move a different path length, and each such movement generates a rotary movement of a gear according to its size, which is transmitted by a pawl on the gear to a ratchet and a gear attached to it.
A fixed stop limits the movement caused by the button 9, but for each of the other movements there is a movable stop that is set by the numeric key and stops the rotating pawl, thus also the ratchet wheel and gear wheel, so that the The number wheel and the associated print wheel get exactly the required rotary movement.
In short, the elements are connected in such a way that the individual movements are initially ample and then precisely limited for each digit, whereby the individual elements are suddenly set in motion and stopped and quickly returned to their starting position

Two of these plates 34 each have a series of holes 35 which secure the attack of the foot end of the key on the plate (FIGS. 6 and 7). Since the third plate is at the front, this is a different arrangement for the two for the same purpose

arms 39, 40 and 41 are of different lengths because each has a different movement to perform. The slots in the slide 46 are sufficiently large and long to accommodate, for example, the crank arm 39, i. i. the foremost to enable the slider 46 to move without disturbing the rear adjacent crank arm 40, while the end pin 44 of the crank arm 41 can push the slider back without any effect on the other two pins 42 and 43 and their crank arms 39 and 40, consequently not on the associated oscillating plates 34 either.
The task of the toothed arch 53 is to rotate the partially toothed wheel 57, more or less depending on the magnitude of the movement that the slide 46 has received, which of course depends on which of the plates 34 is pressed by one of the Buttons 29 has been set in motion and which of the crank arms 39, 40 or 41, i.e. H. the shortest, the middle or the longest, came into effect. The rotation of the wheel 57, through the intermediary of the ratchet pin 62, of course results in that of the ratchet wheel 59 and the ring gear 60, and this latter then rotates the gear which moves the number wheels and the other parts to be further described.
The ratchet head 63 is intended to strike against the selected stop bolt 25, which is advanced by the same movement of the numeric key that also brings the slide 46 and the toothed arch 53 into effect.
EMI3.2
Re-adjustment of the individual parts is secured.
The peculiar design of the ratchet wheel with the toothed rim offers easy yet effective mobility, which is ideally adapted to the work to be carried out, in which the entire force to be transmitted is implemented at this point and in which the sharp stops are necessary to achieve accuracy.
The particular purpose of arranging the pawl on the partially toothed wheel 57 is that when the toothed arc 53 rotates the wheel 57, the action of the pawl 62 with respect to the center of rotation should be such that there is always an inclination to pull the pawl 62 into the corresponding tooth gap of the ratchet wheel J9, and so every possibility is excluded that the pawl the tooth. for which it is intended, overflows or omits. This precautionary measure is necessary because of the sudden interruptions in the movements of the mechanism mentioned above.
In other words, the

is available. pulling the pawl toward the center of rotation instead of giving it a centrifugal motion and pushing it away from the center. As a rule, with movements of a similar nature the effect of the centrifugal force is such that it tries to disengage the chaitkhnke. In this case the great difficulties of sudden acceleration and sudden stopping are transformed into advantages by being
EMI3.4
The arrangement shown enables another degree of precision in the effect. On its return, the pawl 62 must stop at a very precisely defined point and rise as far as possible or step out of the tooth gap so that the next movement can begin immediately and without the pawl remaining,: and 76 cattle side plates that are attached to the base plate 1 are screwed tight and as

Zero position. In this section we will now describe the parts that are used to return the number wheels and print wheels to zero.
A number of incompletely toothed wheels 134 mesh with incompletely toothed wheels 90 on each intermediate wheel. Wheels 90 are twenty-tooth wheels that are missing three teeth. The wheels 134 are rotated by a shaft 135 on which they are fixed and which protrudes on one side of the machine and carries a gear 136 at the end. The latter is pushed sideways by a spring 137 (FIG. 19), so that a coupling part 138 on this wheel can easily come into engagement with a coupling member 139 which sits on the hub 140 of a thumb washer 141 on the end of the shaft 135.
The thumb disk 141 has a center-converging arc 142 and a sideways protrusion 143 with a recess 144 on the inside for a similar purpose. An angle lever 145 is arranged on a shaft 146 which protrudes on one side of the machine, with the aid of a spring 147 which is placed around its hub, while this receives a pin 149 in a recess 1, the is in the shaft 146 (Fig.

the carriage 107 goes over the protruding arm of the lever 99, pushes it down and, with the help of its cam groove, brings the associated coupling wheel 92 out of engagement with the preceding digit wheel, so that this pinion wheel cannot receive any movement from the digit wheel of the next higher position.
As the addition progresses, whenever the transition from 9 to 0 occurs on a number wheel, one of the wide teeth 85 of the associated coupling wheel 92 enters the gap between the two individual teeth 91, whereby the two adjacent number wheels are temporarily coupled and take one step together for the obvious purpose of increasing the higher digit by 1 if the lower digit counts over 9.
The rotations of the number wheels result in equally large rotary movements of the associated print wheels, through the intermediary of the intermediate wheels 83. The first movement of a number wheel results in the setting of the corresponding adjusting lever 178 in the printing position, as the pin 186 on the intermediate wheel immediately the cam 181 on Adjusting lever pushed back.
If one of the number and pressure wheels has been omitted (because of the number 0), the movement of the carriage 107 when passing over the ends of the levers 99 causes the adjusting levers 7M to move into the pressure position. This is achieved by the action of the cam slot 98 on the pin 97 in each coupling wheel 92 in that this pin rotates the lever 195 while sliding in the slot so that its arm 198 goes up and brings the associated control lever 7M into the pressure position.
Each pressed-in control lever 178 snaps under the end of a leaf spring 183 and is held there so that the catches 180 maintain a position such that they are hit by the lower edge of the stamp 187, which is under spring pressure, when it is pressed down by hand. As a result, each pressed-in adjusting lever 187 and with it each associated pressure lever 172 is then pressed down, so that the number corresponding to the addition sum is printed on the paper that is under the opening in the base plate of the
