Of course, any other embodiment is also possible if it only serves the purpose that no hydrogen comes into contact with the hot metal wall. Has one z. B. an inner and outer vessel in the simple form indicated by the figure, the outer hot cavity B can also be filled with a suitable melt, on which hydrogen does not act and in which it does not dissolve. In this case the pressure lines can communicate directly.

Due to the chosen arrangement, the hydrogen can no longer exert its harmful influence on the hot metal wall. In addition, it was achieved that even in experiments lasting several weeks at the synthesis of ammonia using temperatures of about 5000 C, no loss of hydrogen occurred, even if the partial pressure of the same was over 100 atm. and the total pressure was correspondingly higher.

As mentioned, the process for the synthesis of ammonia from the elements under pressure with the aid of catalysts is of particular importance.

    PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method of reacting hydrogen or hydrogen-containing gas mixtures under pressure and at elevated temperature, characterized in that the reaction is carried out in a reaction vessel which is resistant to chemical action and diffusion of hydrogen and is arranged within a pressure-tight vessel, but separated from it by an intermediate space The separation of the two vessels and the transfer of the pressure in the inner reaction vessel to the outer vessel are effected by interposing a medium that is under the same pressure as that in the reaction space, so that the hydrogen only enters the actual reaction vessel ,

but does not come into contact with the hot parts of the external pressure-bearing container.
