Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Process for the simultaneous preparation of hydrogen sulfide and the sulfides of alkalis or alkaline earths.
The subject of the process is the processing of sulfur-containing residues of any kind, for example the sulfur or sulfur-gypsum mixture separated from the denitration waste liquor, which also contains organic substances, and its conversion into hydrogen sulfide and sulfides or sulfhydrates.
The related methods proposed up to now suffer either from the disadvantage that unchanged sulfur goes away during the process or that they require complicated and expensive apparatus.
These disadvantages are completely avoided in the present process, the apparatus being extremely simple.
The process is based on the principle of heating the sulfur-containing residues after prior mixing with alkalis or alkaline earths, alone or together with reducing organic substances, to a dark red heat.
Under these conditions, part of the sulfur reacts with the water present in the mixture to form a buzz, while at the same time another part is bound by the alkalis with the formation of sulfites, sulfides or polysulfides. The latter are an extremely effective reducing agent for the sulphates contained in the mixture, so that only a short time has to be heated at the end for complete induction to Ca S, provided that sufficient organic sulphates were present.
The use of alkalis not only eliminates any sublimation of the free sulfur
EMI1.1
Sulphates achieved an unforeseeable technical effect.
The use of so-called sugar-lime sludge, which in and of itself is almost worthless, has proven to be particularly useful for mixing with the sulfur-containing residues
