Process for expanding slag by bringing it into contact with water.
The slag produced in the various metallurgical processes, e.g. B. blast furnace slag, are commonly used in the manufacture of building materials. Fm light material. To produce so-called artificial pumice, the slag is brought into contact with water in a liquid state, causing it to expand. Various devices are known for this.
There are, however, slags which, due to their composition and the course of the metallurgical process, are not readily suitable for the production of artificial pumice, especially if they are too low when they come into contact with the water.
EMI1.1
Artificial stone, so-called artificial pumice, is suitable if heat is subsequently added to the other after leaving the furnace in which they are produced, before they are brought into contact with the water. This increase in temperature is achieved by a second furnace or by a heating
EMI1.2
Slags, which in themselves have a low melting point, require behrfs to increase the melting point to a temperature which proves to be particularly favorable for the expansion, surcharges after leaving the furnace, such as. B. of lime, clay or coke. These additives change the composition of the slag either by reducing the manganese or by decomposing the flux in such a way that the melting point of the slag is increased. or they change the composition by forming compounds with a higher melting point in such a way that a higher temperature can easily be achieved by supplying heat.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method for expanding slag by bringing it into contact with water, characterized in that the slag which leaves the furnace at a lower temperature. heated to a higher temperature than necessary for puffing before it comes into contact with water.
