Steel for gun barrels, rifle barrels, breeches and other parts of firearms that are exposed to the effects of the combustion residues of explosives.

It has been shown that copper-containing nickel steel has a special resistance to the rust-forming effect of the residues of explosive substances, such as those used in firearms, and therefore especially for such fire-fighting. weapons that are exposed to the rust-forming effect of combustion residues and come into contact with residues of the explosives used is suitable.

This is the advantageous field of application especially for copper-containing nickel. steel in firearms expanded.

As a result of its properties, this type of steel is used advantageously not only for the barrel of firearms, but also for those locking parts, taps, cartridge chambers, etc., where the harmful effects of repeated heating, even with copper-free steel, are not to be feared, but those that cause rust Effect of the residues of the explosives used may be exposed.

Tests have shown the surprising fact that with a slightly higher nickel content, the resistance of copper-containing nickel steels to the effects of nitric acid, nitric anhydride, carbonic acid and moisture is particularly great, although nickel is known to be very poorly resistant to the effects of nitric acid against the influence of the influences mentioned makes the stick! but also resistant to the rust-forming effect of the residues of explosives used in firearms.

It has been found, for example, that a steel which contains 7% Ni and 4% Cu remains practically rust-free after days of simultaneous exposure to moist air, carbonic acid and vapors from nitric acid.
