Apparatus for carrying out organic elemental analysis.
The long duration of the burn according to the old Liebigian. n 1: 1 method and the disparity between the small amount of substance and the large gas or. Electricity consumption gave rise to various suggestions for improvement. More recently, Pregl has reported on a process according to which the combustion is extremely fast and can be carried out with a single burner. Pregl connects a mercury aerometer to the last absorption vessel in order to collect the unabsorbed combustion products, and then switches the gasometer in front of the combustion tube in order to drive the gases that fill the same through the heated tube again.
This method leads to the goal, but has the significant disadvantage that the analyzes have to be carried out with a few centigrams, otherwise gasometers of very large dimensions would be required.
The invented device permits rapid combustion without having to go below the amount of substance that can be used for the old Liebig method.
This object is achieved in that the actual combustion tube is tightly inserted into a second additional tube, which is also charged with copper oxide, copper spirals or the like. through which the gases leaving the last absorption vessel are sent through to complete the combustion.
As can be seen from the schematic drawing, a chlorine-calcium pipe c and a soda-lime pipe d (possibly a Dennstadt duck) are connected to the combustion pipe a, as is common practice. Escaping carbon dioxide and the unabsorbed carbonic acid are returned to the front part of the jacket tube b through the connecting tube h, which is surrounded by a metal tube for protection, in order to be completely burned when passing through it, or absorbed in the soda lime tube e when it exits. f is a (not
