 EMI1.1

It is known to process mixed ores by smelting with zinc chloride or its double salts and precipitating silver and lead by zinc in such a way that the zinc additive, whether in a boiler or a series of boilers connected in series, is added in such an amount that everything existing silver and lead is precipitated.

Experience has shown that a zinc additive equivalent to lead and silver is not sufficient, since the iron salts desired in the chlorine-zinc melt are also reduced to metal by zinc. In addition, a slip consisting of lead, zinc and iron is formed, which on the one hand represents a further loss of zinc and on the other hand disrupts the process due to its pulpy consistency.

According to the present invention, the method mentioned at the beginning is now modified so that not all of the chlorine present in the melt is precipitated there with zinc, but part of the chlorine lead is left unprecipitated and the rest of the lead is recovered in an aqueous solution. With certain ores, e.g.

   B. those with a particularly high iron and low lead content, it is even useful. The filling of the lead in the melt can be completely disregarded and the lead can only be obtained from an aqueous solution. t) a the reduction of iron by zinc takes place only in a melt poor in lead chloride, this reaction is switched off and after the present process
 EMI1.2

In order to obtain the lead from an aqueous solution, the fiery-liquid melt in which all of the ore and gangue is suspended and which contains no silver and only small amounts of lead, is poured into waster. whereupon immediate solution occurs through granulation of the melt and heating of the water. The lead chloride remains dissolved in this hot liquid containing zinc chloride and thus allows the solid components to be separated from the liquid without loss. The latter either becomes the lead chloride partially
