Durch die physikalisch verschiedene Beschaffenheit des Gutes (Schwefelkies, Blende usw.) wird die Gleichmässigkeit des Beschieckens der Öfen verhindert und der damit zusammenhängende Ofengang sowie das Funktionieren der von den Öfen abhängigen Apparate (Bleikammern, Kontakt- Öfen usw.) störenden Schwankungen ausgesetzt. Bei einigen dieser Beschickungsvorrichtungen haben sich auch Störungen durch Heben und Senken der Ofengewölbe zufolge Temperaturschwankungen ergeben, so dass von einen selbsttätigen Beschicken nicht gesprochen werden kann, da im praktischen Betriebe immer wieder die Nachhilfe des Arbeiters notwendig ist.
