Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Process for making a waterproof leather smear.
Rubber, animal fat, vaseline and animal wax have already been used for the production of waterproof boot greases, but the greases used up to now have almost without exception shown the disadvantageous properties of clogging the pores of the leather and forming crusts on the leather after prolonged treatment. This could often be observed especially on shoes that were lubricated after the last use after it was stored for a long time, without the possibility of being able to easily remedy these deficiencies.
It has now been found that the addition of montan wax is suitable for eliminating this disadvantage, which occurs particularly with rubber-containing leather smear, because this makes this leather smear suitable for being washed out by weakly alkaline solutions. The well-known preservatives birch tar oil and Peru balsam can also be added to this mixture.
Execution example:
250 9 rubber (cut into cubes) are boiled in 200 μg of pure pork fat until the rubber has melted in it, about 200 μg of montan wax are added and the pulp is stirred until it cools. Furthermore, vaseline and birch tar oil or Peruvian halsam are added in the appropriate ratio to better preserve the leather.
