whereby they spread the locking hook levers d apart by rolling h 'or the like, the projections b' of the pressing plate entering being released. As a result of the weight of the pressing plates and the material to be pressed resting on the lower plates, the plate column sinks so that the pressing plates of the lower, already loaded part of the plate column lie tightly on the material to be pressed between them. This reduces the length of the previously pulled apart lower part of the plate column, so that there is sufficient space for the part of the plate column lying above the press plate provided with the projections b 'to be pulled apart.
Fig. 2 shows the position in which the lower pressing plates have placed themselves on the pressing material lying between them, which is not shown in particular, and the upper pressing plates are pulled apart.
After the upper plates have also been loaded with material to be pressed, the press piston is moved to

again under the projections b'of the fifth press plate from above, so that when the press piston is later withdrawn, the top five plates are held together, whereas the released lower plates pull apart automatically so that they are again in the position shown in FIG can be loaded.
The lever structure can be attached to either the sides or the front and rear of the press as desired.
