Facility for fluorescence examinations.
In order to make objects that are excited to fluorescence by ultraviolet light visible in their fluorescent light or to photograph them, these objects have so far been given the ultraviolet illumination in the form of incident light or as dark field illumination. These types of lighting have been chosen, although they are more cumbersome and less effective than the application of transmitted light (bright field lighting) would be.
Because it was known that, in addition to the eye media, the parts of the optical system arranged between the object and eye also fluoresce under the influence of ultraviolet light, and that the fluorescent light emanating from these parts had to superimpose the image of the object, one wished from the outset by the type of Illumination of the object to prevent other light falling on the optical system than the fluorescent light emanating from the object.
According to the present invention, the more effective bright field lighting can be used and a correspondingly increased success is achieved with it if the following rule is followed when assembling the optical system. It has to share this before all those
EMI1.1
cited.
In general, the foremost part of the optical system is expediently chosen to be ultraviolet-impermeable and at the same time not fluorescent. If the fluorescence examinations are performed on microscopic specimens, the cover glass forms the foremost optical part.
