Description

Process for gluing together fibrous webs and for covering fibrous materials with layers of adhesive using powdery adhesives.

From patent specification No. 46036 it has become known to unite fibrous webs with one another or to cover them with adhesive layers, that pusher-shaped adhesives dry or moistened with non-dissolving liquids are applied to the fibrous materials and attached to them with steam, gas -or non-reactive solvents are treated.

This method can be used with advantage as long as it is a question of combining only a few layers of fibrous materials with one another or thin layers of adhesive on the
 EMI1.1
Adhesive particles that are not fully dissolved arrive and at the same time give off its heat to the liquid solvent, which causes a more energetic dissolving effect.

The advantage of the present method is based on similar methods when fiber materials are coated with adhesive layers, particularly in the manufacture of artificial leather
 EMI1.2

Nitrocellulose or its equivalents give away fiber materials pass a liquid solvent, so depending on the treatment either the adhesive layer or the fiber material alone or both together absorb solvents, whereby the amount of the

happens or depends on the length of time the product is exposed to the liquid.

One regulates the speed or the time in such a way. To ensure that the amount of solvent absorbed is sufficient to completely dissolve the adhesive, the product only needs to be exposed to an elevated temperature in a closed room

If, on the other hand, the amount of solvent absorbed is not sufficient for complete solution, then either the process is repeated or the product is treated further in a known manner with solvents in vapor, gaseous or mist form until complete solution is achieved.

According to the present invention, the generation of the solvent vapor or mists of the solvent is to be achieved in that the liquid solvent present in the product is made to evaporate and the product remains exposed to these vapors.

This method includes the further advantage that no special steam generator is required to generate the solvent vapors, but that the steam is generated directly in the drying room, as the room remains closed at the beginning of the drying process and the solvent vapor is only extracted after the adhesive has completely dissolved he follows.
