Very different products are described in the literature under the name hydroquinine, hydrocinchonine, etc. First of all, it refers to the hydroquinine alkaloids, hydroquinine, hydrocinchonidine or cinchamidine, hydrocinchonine or cinchamidine, which occur naturally in small quantities in the cinchona bark in addition to the known china alkaloids.

A second class of bodies formed from the china alkaloids by the action of nascent hydrogen, e.g. B. with sodium amalgam, zinc and sulfuric acid, sodium and alcohol, are sometimes also referred to as hydroalkatoids, but their properties differ sharply from the above

Then a solution of 50 parts of hydrochloric acid quinine mf) () () parts with 10 parts of 10% hydrochloric acid acidified water is added and the mixture is shaken with hydrogen, which is best under low pressure, until the theoretical amount = 0.252 parts is recorded. Then add excess ammonia and shake out the deposited base with ether. When the essential solution is concentrated, hydroquinine crystallizes out with its known properties.

Hydro bonds of binidine, cinchonine and cinchonidine can be obtained in an analogous manner.

The products obtained are used for medicinal purposes.
