<Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Method of processing distillery lempe.
According to the method for processing Brenneroiscblempe forming the subject of parent patent no. 51343, the stillage is mixed with cellulose, which can advantageously be used in the form of partially or completely charred wood cellulose, or is allowed to be absorbed by such coal, then the mixture dried and the glycerine found in the drag along with succinic acid removed from it with the help of one or more solvents of these substances or by osmosis or pressing, whereby the residue obtained is a mass of considerable calorific value, which can be briquetted and, when burned, leaves behind alkali salts or raw potash .
As suitable solvents for the extraction of the glycerine and the succinic acid from the mass obtained by mixing the pulp and cellulose, various substances such as H. alcohol strongly mixed with flow products, carbon tetrachloride, the follow-up products from alcohol rectification and the like. a. cited.
Continued experiments with the above process have now shown that an alcohol-benzene mixture with a benzene content of up to about 50 can also be used as the solvent for the glycerine to be extracted, the latter in the case of the extract) on process increased temperature can experience a further increase.
Since the latent heat of benzene is much lower than that of alcohol, the advantage of using such a mixture is that smaller amounts of heat are consumed for evaporation. A further advantage of this procedure is that the glycerine can be precipitated very simply from the resulting solution of glycerine in the alcohol-benzene mixture used by adding further benzene
EMI1.1
Equal parts of a mixture of alcohol and benzene, which contains glycerine, to excrete most of the latter. In this way it is possible to obtain the glycerine without distillation.
Incidentally, as goes without saying, the
EMI1.2
by adding a further benzoin, if desired also by distillation, the glycerine being obtained as residue.
