Drum dryer for potatoes and other crops.
The invention relates to drum dryers for potatoes and crops that behave in a manner similar to cardboard.
The aim of the present improvement is to redry the flakes obtained in the shortest possible time to such an extent that their moisture content goes down to the same rest of about 13% or less. This is achieved by replacing the previously common removal plate with an internally heated, hollow collecting body for the flakes that have been peeled off.
Fig. 1 shows a schematic representation of the longitudinal section of the invented after-dryer

are retained unchanged. In contrast, the usual removal plate has been replaced by the hollow body e shown in the diagram (FIG. 2). In cross-section, this body has the shape of a triangle with two straight sides A B and B C and a side A C bent according to the curvature of the roller. Accordingly, body g is delimited in the longitudinal direction by two flat walls and, after the drying roller, by a cylindrical wall.
The body g is closed off at both ends by transverse walls. The circle h entered in one of the end walls means a pipe connection through which boiler steam or heated air is directed into the interior of the after-dryer. The heating of the steam or air can be done in any way, e.g. B. by means of a heating coil built into a boiler pass or the fox channel. An increase in fuel consumption need not be associated with this.
The irritant is transferred to the after-dryer by means of an exhaustor or fan. When entering the after-dryer, hot air should have a temperature of around 140 ° C. Steam is of course used as it is available. After the heating medium has given off its heat in the after-dryer, it is BEZW to new heating air. To make room for fresh steam, released into the open air through an opening not visible in the drawing, located on the opposite end wall.
The upper surface of the after-dryer (. B in cross-section), which serves to catch the flakes falling off the knives, is in the direction of the peeling

is marked with B C, is covered with a poor heat conductor, so that no unnecessary
Heat losses occur. The curved wall corresponding to the cutting line 4 C, however, remains uncovered, so that the potato layer to be dried still on the roller a is not only heated from the inside of the roller a, but also from the outside and is therefore better even before it is peeled off by the knife b than is dried with the usual facility.
The tests to be carried out will possibly show that, if the device described is carried out carefully, the wall -1 C can be completely omitted, that is to say the hollow body 9 can be left open near the drying roller.

PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Roller dryer for potatoes and other crops, in which the dry material layer is peeled off in flake form by means of a knife after a large part of its water content has been removed, characterized by a hollow collecting body (ABC) which serves as an after-dryer and is arranged below the take-off point for the flakes is heated by steam or warm air.
