the looper 91 receives the necessary oscillating motion. Then the link 69a (FIG. 2) is adjusted such that its pivot point comes to lie outside the axis of rotation of the arm 67, whereby the looper 91 is also adjusted to the side by the switching movement corresponding to the adjustment of the needle. The auxiliary thread 129 goes through a conventional tensioning device and through eyelets 1,33, 134 (FIG. 9) of the looper 91 in order to finally pass through the eyelet 97, the bore of which passes through the nose 96.
Since the looper moves past the needle thread, which runs against the workpiece when the needle is pulled out, the inclined surfaces 98, 99 brush the thread and move it out of the path of the looper. The tip of the nose 96 extends backwards so far that the auxiliary thread can be pulled behind the needle. In order to adjust the parts in such a way that the auxiliary thread assumes a certain position in relation to the two rows of stitches, the looper, who is fastened to the rod 81 by means of the clamping screw 89, only needs to loosen it, turn it a small angle and then turn it again to be established.
If it is z. If, for example, you want to insert the auxiliary thread immediately next to the row of stitches that the needle executes in its right-hand end position, then the looper is set so that it moves further out on the right side of the needle than on the left (Fig. 10, 11, 12 and 13). As the needle moves back and forth in a lateral direction, the looper also moves with the needle, but to a greater extent than the needle. As a result of the movements of these parts, the auxiliary thread is looped around the threads of the adjacent stitches of the needle thread, as can be seen from FIG.
If it is desired to wind the needle thread around the auxiliary thread, as shown in Fig. 18, then the tension of the auxiliary thread must be so strong with respect to that of the needle thread that the former is just pulled out.

In order to produce the pattern shown in FIG. 22, the parts are adjusted in the manner just described, but with a double seam being arranged on the needle bar.
In FIGS. 12 and 13, the mutual position of the parts when using such a double needle is illustrated. With this device it is possible to produce the pattern shown in FIG.
