<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The invention relates to a device for data acquisition, in particular for the acquisition of wage and / or time data of workers, with one or more reading devices and an evaluation device for evaluating the read data.
For example, bar code readers that have an internal memory are used for data acquisition. The stored data can then be connected to an evaluation device, for example by means of a cable.
The object of the invention is to provide a device for decentralized data acquisition, with which the data recorded by the reading device can be forwarded to a central evaluation device even over great distances.
According to the invention, it is provided that each reader is connected to or integrated into a mobile terminal, the mobile terminal being designed as a WAP terminal for participation in a digital mobile telecommunications network, and that the preferably stationary evaluation device comprises a browser.
For example, digital mobile telephones, which are preferably designed for operation in the GSM network, can be used as WAP terminals (Wireless Application Protocol).
This makes it possible to initially pass on the data recorded by the reader wirelessly via the digital mobile telecommunications network. This telecommunications network can then be used for further transport, for example, via the Internet equipped with a WAP server or an intranet, which is connected to the telecommunications network, for example via an ISDN line, the evaluation device preferably being equipped with a modem and a browser communicate over the Internet or intranet.
In this way, it is also possible, via a display device of the WAP terminal, to transmit data from the evaluation device to the WAP terminal, for example in the sense of a
Confirmation of the read data to send back.
It is advantageously provided that each mobile WAP terminal in addition to or as an alternative to
Reader has an input device for data, in particular a keyboard.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The device according to the invention can be designed such that, in addition to the wireless transmission from the WAP terminal, it also has at least one terminal connected via a modem, which is equipped with a browser and its own reading device.
The use of wireless transmission via the WAP terminal allows the data to be used even in harsh environments, for example on a construction site, without a mains power supply. For example, it is possible to record workers' wage and / or time data on a construction site using a bar code and then transmit them from the WAP mobile phone via the telecommunications network and the Internet to an evaluation device. In general, a central evaluation device will be provided, which can record and evaluate data transmitted from a wide variety of recording points.
Further advantages and details of the invention are explained in more detail with reference to the following description of the figures.
The figure shows a schematic representation of an embodiment of an inventive device for data acquisition, in particular for the acquisition of wage and / or time data of workers.
At each construction site, a sheet with bar codes is provided by a polisher or foreman or by the worker himself, which is assigned to certain workers, certain wage types and / or certain times. This sheet is denoted schematically by 1 in FIG. The individual bar codes 2 are read by an external reading device, in particular a bar code reader 3, and transmitted via a cable 4 to the WAP terminal 5, which in the exemplary embodiment shown is a WAP mobile phone which is equipped for operation in a GSM network.
As indicated schematically, the data are then transmitted wirelessly to an antenna 6 of the GSM network 7, in accordance with the nWireless Application Protocol "(WAP). A connection to the Internet 9, which is provided with a WAP, is then established via a WAP gateway 8 The data thus practically available worldwide on the Internet 9 can then be evaluated via an evaluation device 10, which participates in the Internet via an integrated modem and a telephone line 11, the evaluation device
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
includes a browser to build the data into a readable page. Conversely, data can be sent from the evaluation device via the Internet 9 and the mobile telecommunications network 7 to the mobile WAP terminal and displayed there.
In addition to mobile WAP terminals in the form of mobile phones, other mobile WAP terminals can also be used, for example small PALM computers that run under Windows CE.
Instead of the bar code readers, other reading devices such as magnetic card readers or the like can also be used.
The device according to the invention shown in the figure also has the possibility of providing wired data communication via the internet 9 and lines 12 in addition to the wireless WAP communication, for example a laptop 13 with an integrated modem can be used on site. Again, a bar code 2 ', for example, can be detected via a reading device 3'. The system is therefore open and not limited to WAP communication.
