<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

0,8 mm.

The invention relates to a plate heat exchanger having at least three heat exchange plates pressed together from one another with the interposition of seals and having heat-exchanging central parts in their heat-exchanging central parts, wave profiles extending obliquely to the plate axis, the wave profiles of mutually adjacent heat exchange plates crossing and supporting one another, and at least two different plate shapes with regard to one another the middle part shape is available
Such plate heat exchangers are used for heat exchange between mostly liquid media and they consist of at least three, but mostly of a large number of individual, removable heat exchange plates made of pressed sheet metal, the liquid-contacting middle part of which is surrounded by a seal,
which sits in an edge groove The individual heat exchange plates are usually held together by means of two outer, solid plates using clamping screws
The efficiency of a heat exchanger is primarily determined by the design of the heat exchange profile. Ideally, this profile should generate a high level of turbulence in order to optimally design the heat transfer, but on the other hand only cause a low flow resistance in order to keep the energy requirement of the feed pumps requiring the media low.
Another essential requirement for the heat exchange profile is that it is designed in such a way that there is a stable support between adjacent heat exchange plates, which ensures that the plate spacing remains constant in the event of pressure differences in the individual flow channels.
Practice has shown that a very favorable form of the heat exchange profile is that of waves crossing each other at a certain angle, cf. e.g. B. AT 343 699 B or EP 526 679 A. This type of profile results in good heat transfer with relatively low pressure loss. The inclination of the angle against the direction of flow determines the ratio of heat transfer to pressure loss.
In addition, with this profile design there are sufficient support points for mutual support of adjacent heat exchange plates without the harmonic flow between them being disturbed by additional support points
Most plate heat exchangers have the property that the flow characteristics of two adjacent plate interspaces are the same, i. H. the same heat transfer coefficients occur on both sides of a heat exchange plate, provided that the two media have the same physical data and flow in equal amounts through both plate gaps. The pressure losses are equally high under these conditions.
It is known that with very different amounts of liquid or with different viscosity of the media in heat exchange, it would be a great advantage to adapt the flow channels to the respective media so as not to have to accept the disadvantage of high flow resistances or to keep the flow resistance low without having to connect unnecessarily many flow paths in parallel.
In order to adapt the flow channels to the requirements listed above, attempts were made to provide every second flow path with an excessive seal in order to achieve a larger plate spacing and thus also a larger flow cross section for one of the media. This solution has the disadvantage that it is then is not applicable if the flow channel provided with the normal high seal has a higher pressure than the neighboring one, since in this case there is no support at the points necessary for the support.
Another disadvantage is the lower turbulence that arises in the expanded flow channel.
Furthermore, attempts were made to achieve the different flow characteristics with constant flow cross-sections by the waves crossing each other in the flow channels for the one medium, whereas in the second medium, for which a lower flow resistance is to be achieved, they are parallel to each other. However, it is disadvantageous that the support points, which are required for the flow channels with the parallel shafts in order to achieve the necessary compressive strength, prove to be inefficient in the circuit with the crossing shafts, since they have the desired turbulence as they reduce with pure, only crossing waves.
Another disadvantage is the susceptibility of the flow channels to move in the presence of large amounts of solids in the flowing medium, since the flow cross-sections are the same size
Manufacturing costs of the pressing tools are also high due to the existing ones
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
mean flow cross sections for the two media the degree of difference in the flow characteristics strictly limited
The present invention is based on the object, starting from a plate heat exchanger, are used in the heat exchange plates of the same layer thickness with intersecting shafts that support each other on both sides, yet allow different flow cross-sections and thus different flow characteristics for the media in heat exchange.
The plate heat exchanger according to the invention of the type mentioned at the outset is characterized in that at least one heat exchange plate has notches on at least some of the wave profiles which form flow passages, and between which the wave profile defines support points for the adjacent heat exchange plate. In the present plate heat exchanger, two types of are therefore used Heat exchange plates Flow channels with different flow characteristics are formed by notching the plates, which are provided with numerous wave-shaped projections that run obliquely to the flow direction and whose height is equal to the plate spacing.
As a result, where the notches form additional flow passages, the flow resistance and thus the pressure loss is reduced. On the other hand, the fact that the notches can be easily arranged between the support points, the shaft crossing points, and adjacent heat exchange plates also maintains the high strength of the plate composite . Overall, the possibility is created to give the heat exchanger for a medium a significantly different flow characteristic than for the other medium, for. B. alternately plates with and plates without notches are lined up. The different flow characteristics are brought about by two effects:
1. Different sized flow channels are created between the different plates.
2. The effect that the larger flow cross section brings with it due to the notches is reinforced by the fact that a considerable part of the flowing medium without
Forced deflection can flow through the middle part of the heat exchanger.
The plate heat exchanger according to the invention also has the advantage that the heat exchange plates with corrugation and notches favor the efficiency, and that large and small flow channels can be obtained even with the same plate layer thickness, in which not only flow speeds of different sizes, but also different levels of turbulence prevail.
The adaptation to different amounts of liquid or different viscosities is possible due to the free choice of the notch size and number of notches within wide limits (namely while maintaining the support points), which results in very different flow cross sections for the two media in heat exchange.
Another advantage of the design of the plate heat exchanger according to the invention can be seen in the fact that the large flow channels on one side allow large solid parts to flow through in the medium without forced deflection and without the associated increased risk of relocation.
A decisive advantage is the constant number of support points for both flow channels as well as the simplicity and the associated low manufacturing costs of the pressing tool.
It should be mentioned that DE 32 44 547 A discloses a heat exchanger with heat exchange plates which are profiled in a wave-like manner, with notches being provided in the corrugation. However, the wave crests or wave troughs here run horizontally, so that adjacent heat exchange plates with the flattened wave crests lie next to one another, and no flow for the heat exchange media would be possible without other measures. The notches in the horizontal wave crests therefore serve to provide a flow passage from top to bottom or vice versa between two adjacent heat exchange plates at all, it is also not intended to use the notches to provide different flow cross sections or
To provide flow resistances, rather the flow channels created should be dimensioned such that the volumes of the partial flows are of equal size.
Furthermore, a plate heat exchanger with corrugated heat exchange plates is known from AT 358 609 B, the corrugations running obliquely and so the waves from adjacent heat exchange plates as described above
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
cross, in addition, the corrugation should have comparatively small grooves superimposed on it, which, however, do not serve as a means of influencing the flow channels, but rather cause stiffening or increase the strength of the heat exchange plates. These fine grooves do not influence the flow behavior, and in particular can the grooves, since they are present on all corrugations, also do not lead to different flow characteristics with different heat exchange plate pairs.
In the plate heat exchanger according to the invention, the notches can in each case only be provided on some specific wave profiles, but it is advantageous for a uniform influencing of the flow characteristics over the entire height of the heat exchange plates if all wave profiles of the at least one heat exchange plate are provided with notches
As mentioned, only individual heat exchange plates can be provided with notches on the wave profiles in the present plate heat exchanger, but in order to be even more flexible with regard to the design options when determining the flow characteristics for the individual flow channels, it is also advantageous to
when the heat exchange plates are lined up and have notches of different sizes on their corrugated profiles
In order to enable an at least substantially the same flow resistance for the flow paths given by the notches over the width of the heat exchange plates despite the differently long flow paths for the respective medium per plate pair, it is particularly advantageous according to the invention if at least one heat exchange plate on at least one wave profile has differently sized notches having.
By appropriately dimensioning the notches per flow path, the flow resistance can be easily adjusted for a given pair of plates
In order to further optimize the heat exchange process even with the viscosity-changing media due to a variable, in particular increasing, flow resistance when flowing through a pair of plates, it is also advantageous if at least one heat exchange plate is provided with notches of different sizes on different wave profiles, preferably the notches in the flow direction become smaller transversely to the wave profiles.
For manufacturing and strength reasons, it is also advantageous if the notches have a depth of 1/4 to 1/2 the height of the wave profiles.
As already mentioned, the notches can be defined in terms of their size and their number depending on the desired flow characteristics, with the wave crossing points, ie. h the points of mutual support of the heat exchange plates must be taken into account. Accordingly, the length of the notches, measured in the direction of the wave profiles, must be determined so that the desired support points are retained, which depends on the inclination of the corrugations on the one hand and on the width of the wave profiles on the other. In practice, an embodiment has proven to be particularly efficient here, in which the notches have a length, measured in the direction of the wave profiles, of 6 mm to 18 mm. In particular, the notches have a length of 8 mm to 11 mm.
The inclined course of the waves is preferably set in an angular range of 35 to 15
The invention is further explained below on the basis of preferred exemplary embodiments schematically illustrated in the drawing, to which, however, it should not be restricted.

11 shows a schematic sectional illustration similar to that of FIG. 9, a succession of heat exchange plates, which are alternately provided with notches of different depths, FIG. 12 shows a schematic cross section along the line XII-XII in FIG. 11, in an illustration similar to that of FIG Fig. 6 or 8 or 10, this sequence of heat exchange plates with different depth notches; 13 shows a plan view similar to FIG. 3, a heat exchange plate modified in comparison therewith; FIG. 14 shows a schematic sectional illustration, along the line XIV-XIV in FIG. 13, of a stack of such heat exchange plates according to FIG. 13; which are sequentially rotated 180 degrees from each other;
15 shows a further heat exchange plate in plan view, and FIG. 16 shows a section through this heat exchange plate according to the line XVI-XVI in FIG. 15.
1 and 3 show heat exchange plates 1 and 2, the liquid-contacting middle parts 3 are surrounded by a seal 4. The seal 4 is located in an edge groove 5, cf. 5 and 7, in particular, in each central part 3 there are shafts 6 and 6a which run obliquely to the longitudinal axis 7 of the respective heat exchange plate 1 and 2 and which thus run at an angle a to the transverse axis 8, the shafts and profiles 6, 6a cross each other when the heat exchange plates 1, 2 are placed one on top of the other. This is known per se, so that a further description and in particular also a description of the entire structure of the plate heat exchanger can be superfluous in this regard
5 and 6 show sections of the wave profile of the first plate type 1.
It can be seen that the shafts 6 continuously reach the theoretical delimitation levels 9 and 10
Figures 7 and 8 show corresponding sections through the wave profile of the other plate type 2 according to Figure 3. It can also be seen in connection with FIG. 3 that the shafts 6a are interrupted by numerous notches 11 arranged on one side, so that the shafts 6a continuously reach the lower theoretical limit plane 9 in FIG. 7, but the upper one theoretical boundary plane 10 is only reached at the points required for the spacing, the support or crossing points 12. The angle a is here, for example, 15 to 35.
9 and 10 show the succession of plate types 1 and 2, the waves 6 of the plates 1 continuously reaching the boundary planes 10 and 9 (see FIG. 5), while the waves 6a of the plates 2 only reach the respective lower boundary plane 9 reach continuously, the shafts 6a are interrupted by numerous notches 11 on the other side, the upper side in FIGS. 7 and 9, so that the upper boundary plane 10 only reaches the points 12 required for the spacing of the individual plates 1, 2 becomes.
In FIG. 9 it can also be seen that flow channels 13 are formed in each case between the boundary plane 9 of one plate 1 and the notches 11 of the other plate 2, which enable the medium flowing between these plates 1, 2 to pass in a straight line.
In FIG. 10, a cross section XX through this plate pack according to FIG. 9, formed from plates 1-2-1-2, illustrates how, according to the notches 11 of the plates 2 that are present on one side, flow channel cross sections of different sizes, namely a channel enlargement 14 and a Channel constriction 15 can be obtained.
11 shows a section through four heat exchange plates 2'-2-2'-2, all of which are provided with notches 11 and 11 'arranged on one side, but with different sizes. In plate type 2 ', notches 11' are larger (deeper) than notches 11 in plate type 2.
Flow channels 14 and 15 of different sizes are also achieved in this way, a straight-line flow without forced deflection being made possible for part of the medium flowing in the narrower flow channel 14 by the arrangement of the notches 11 '.
Fig. 13 shows a heat exchange plate 2a, in which the individual flow paths 18a to 18e between the inlet opening 16 and the outlet opening 17, in particular in the case of larger widths of the heat exchange plates, have a very different length. As a result of the different flow resistance for the individual flow channels 18a to 18e result in a different flow rate, which leads to an increased pressure loss and furthermore to poor heat transfer values.
13, no or very small notches 11a are now provided for the shortest flow path 18a; With increasing length of the flow paths 18b-18c-18d-18e, notches 11a 'which become larger are provided. By correctly dimensioning these notches 11a, 11a, the flow rate for the individual flow paths 18a to 18e is kept constant and thus the efficiency is optimized.

FIG. 14 shows a plate pack, formed from such heat exchange plates 2a, 2a 'according to FIG. 3. The plates 2a' lie in the plate pack rotated by 180 relative to the plates 2a.
15 and 16 finally show a heat exchange plate 2b, in which the individual flow paths 18a to 18e between the inflow opening 16 and the outflow opening 17 are changed by the arrangement of notches 11 which become smaller in flow direction, resulting in a change in the flow characteristic. This means that the flow resistance and thus the heat transfer between two plates 2b carrying out the heat exchange is greater. This shape has the advantage that, for media which experience a significant change in viscosity when flowing through the heat exchange plates 2b as a result of a change in temperature, the heat exchange process is optimized becomes.
For obvious reasons, a combination of the arrangement of the notches 11 a and 11 b of the heat exchange plates 2a and 2b according to FIGS. 13 and 15 is also advantageous.
In practical embodiments, the length of the wave profiles 6 or 6a, measured along the section line VV or VII-VII, was 120 mm to 300 mm, and the angle a was 250. The notches 11 had a length of 8 mm to 11 mm and a depth from 1.2 mm to 1.6 mm; in the embodiment of Figures 11 and 12, the notches 11 'and 11 had a length of 2 mm and a depth of 1.6 mm and 0.8 mm, respectively.
