Abstract
Description
AT 404 106 BAT 404 106 B
The invention relates to a molded part according to the preamble of claim 1. The combination of wood and plastics, especially urea formaldehyde resin, has been known for a long time and leads to thermosetting materials which, after shaping and subsequent cross-linking, are no longer accessible to thermoplastic forming. In addition, the combination of plastic and wood leads to products 5 that are no longer biodegradable and can therefore pose a disposal problem.
In some applications, resistance to environmental influences is a desired property. The characteristics of these products and materials are very similar or identical to those of plastic. Wood only functions as a reinforcement, fiber insert or inexpensive filler.
The invention has set itself the goal of overcoming the disadvantages of the combination of wood and conventional plastics in terms of biodegradability and thermoplasticity. It was surprising with the combination of biodegradable, partly hydrophilic thermoplastics and the hydrophilic thermoset wood that products, molded parts or materials are obtained in which the characteristic properties of wood (water absorption, release, excellent mechanical properties, biodegradability) are not lost. The properties of thermoplasticity, improved surface and possibly faster biodegradability were added to wood, which opened up completely new areas of application for these molded parts.
If higher temperatures or even a gas pressure is applied during the impregnation of the solid wood parts, the penetration of the wood matrix with this thermoplastic material takes place much faster. 20 Various types of wood can be used to manufacture the molded parts. Whether hardwood or softwood is used with very thin-walled or thicker wooden parts mainly depends on the requirements of the end product.
The thermoplastic material is referred to in the further description as BAW (biodegradable material). In recent years, a lot of different BAW's have been developed based on natural materials as well as fossil sources based on the environmental discussion. Many of these BAW's even have a hydrophilic character, which means that like many natural substances and especially wood, they are able to absorb and release water. These BAWs therefore contain certain percentages of water according to the relative ambient humidity and are therefore more suitable for combination than plastic in the conventional sense. The hydrophilic character of these BAW's also facilitates their penetration into the wood matrix, whereby the properties of wood are not completely covered but only supplemented.
In addition to loading wood parts with BAW's, other additives such as various fats, oils, waxes or resins, but also lignin or alcohols can be used to create certain properties without significantly reducing the thermoplasticity or biodegradability. As an example, only glycerin that is used as a plasticizer or humectant should be mentioned here. By nature, wood has only very low thermoplastic properties, which are significantly improved by incorporating the BAW's. The molded parts, which are formed by penetrating the wooden parts with BAW's, are similarly accessible to the conventional techniques of thermoplastic forming, such as embossing, pressing, bending, molding, like conventional plastic parts. This thermoplastic forming takes place largely without destroying the inner wood structure, so that in certain cases even the wood grain is completely preserved.
By selecting the right BAW's and the appropriate amount, the rate of biodegradation of the molded part can be set very precisely. It can be delayed compared to wood by using slowly degradable BAW's such as cellulose acetate.
By using different amounts of BAW's in relation to wood and using 45 different process parameters, such as temperature and pressure, the specific weight of the molded parts can be changed over a wide range. This ranges from a very low load of light wood (density 0.2t / m3) to a fully loaded wood matrix with approx.1.5t / m3. An often desired effect, especially when using softwood parts, is the drastic increase in surface hardness through the inclusion of a BAW in the wood matrix, so that naturally soft woods are also suitable for high-quality floors.
2In order to load the wooden part with a BAW, this BAW must be in a suitable form so that it is even possible to penetrate the wood matrix, i.e. the BAW must be liquid. This liquid BAW acts on the wooden part until the desired degree of penetration is reached. This process can be further supported by increasing the temperature and applying pressure. 55 But there is also the possibility that the BAW is liquefied (melt) by increasing the temperature and thus acts on wood. This process can also be significantly improved by further increasing the temperature and external gas, air or steam pressure. 2nd
