<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
B. in überstehenden Randbereichen.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The invention relates to an arrangement for adjusting printing rollers, in particular for screen printing machines, wherein at least one mark is formed or attached to the printing rollers driven by auxiliary motors, which is illuminated with at least one lighting device and a sensor device can be ascertained or recognized an image recording device, e.g.
B. a video camera, preferably a CCD camera, a cell camera or the like, formed sensor device is connected to an image processing (evaluation) unit which comprises a control unit for the drive motors of the respective rollers or is connected to such a control unit, the Drive motors of the individual pressure rollers to be set with respect to their mutual circumferential position Depending on the determined position of the brand (s), in particular individually or independently of one another, can be switched on and off in order to adjust the individual rollers to a predetermined mutual angular or circumferential position.
The aim of the invention is to create an arrangement with which automatic detection of repeat marks and adjustment of the printing rollers is possible, in particular independently of the influence of extraneous light and the surface properties of the printing rollers. In particular, problems occur with metallic rollers, since these light reflections can cause difficulties. Nonetheless, the invention is not limited to metallic rollers, but is generally directed to rollers made of any surface material.
From DE-OS 32 26 078 a Passerelnstellvornchtung for a multi-color printing machine is known disadvantageous bel this known arrangement, however, is that the registration marks can not be detected well; this is already the case for slight soiling of the brands; moreover, the sensor devices are not optimally designed. Arrangements of a similar type are known from DE-A1-39 09 764, EP-A1-311. 729 and EP-A2-295. 433 known. An arrangement similar to the arrangement mentioned at the outset is known from EP 571.159.
The aim of the invention is to improve the detectability of the marks attached to the rollers, which leads to errors again and again in the case of conventional arrangements, and to keep the construction effort as sufficient as possible. Furthermore, the marks should be detectable as error-free as possible.
According to the invention, an arrangement of the type mentioned at the outset is characterized in that the illumination is carried by the illumination, possibly carried by the image recording device, with light incident almost tangentially to the circumference of the printing roller. With the structurally simple and compact arrangement according to the invention, a very precise position detection of the marks is possible; The very sensitive detection allows the position of the marks to be determined and the roller to be adjusted accordingly over long periods of time without maintenance or cleaning and excessive electronic or optical effort.
The almost tangential or grazing light is not picked up directly by the sensor device and reflections of errors on the roller surface take place in flat, undetected angular ranges; The light reflected by the marks or their surfaces aligned radially to the roller axis into the sensor device is sufficient to be detected correctly and essentially without extraneous light.
Preferred embodiments result from the further description, the drawing and the patent claims, in which preferred embodiments of the invention are described. The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing. 1 schematically shows the structure of an arrangement according to the invention, FIGS. 2, 2a, 2b and 2c show different exemplary embodiments for brands and FIG. 3 schematically shows a section through an arrangement according to the invention.
1 schematically shows an arrangement according to the invention in which in principle any number of printing rollers can be provided, which rollers are to be brought into a specific interdependency with respect to their circumferential or angular position in order for the printing process to take place or to be carried out in the desired manner to allow the print jobs caused by the individual rollers to be carried out precisely. Such printing operations are e.g. B.
Screen printing processes in which each roller carries out a different dyeing job. The ones to be printed

the like. the significant.
The arrangement according to the invention can be used for the angular position regulation of printing rollers for any printing purposes, regardless of whether it is S, eb printing rollers or rollers used for other printing processes.
1 shows an arrangement with two rollers W, each of which is provided with a cross-shaped mark 1. The rollers W rotate in the direction of arrow 2, in the present case in the same direction and are to be brought into a specific mutual position with respect to their circumferences or rotational angle position. The rollers W are each driven by a motor M; The motors M assigned to the individual rollers W can be controlled separately or switched on and off and can the individual ones
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Rotate rollers independently of each other. In order to be able to determine the respective circumferential position of the rollers W, they each carry at least one mark 1, which is (are) detected by a sensor device 3.
As soon as the mark 1 moves into the detection area of the sensor device 3, this mark 1 is detected on the basis of the light reflected by it and thus the angular position of the printing film attached to the roll M or the angular position of the roll W itself with respect to a defined initial or Nullage determined. The sensor devices 3 of the individual rollers W are optically electronically functioning image recording devices and are connected to an image processing or evaluation unit 4. The entry of the mark 1 into the field of view of the sensor device 3 or the reaching of a specific position can thus be precisely detected.
Depending on whether the arrival of the mark 1 occurs at a certain point in time or is delayed or in advance, corresponding signals of the image recording or. Processing unit 4 fed to a control device 5, from which the individual motors M of the individual rollers W on or. turned off. If a certain angular advance of a mark 1 is determined, then the roller W carrying this mark 1 is stopped for a certain period of time or the other roller (s) is (are) accelerated further until synchronism is achieved. If a lag is found, either this roller rotates faster or the other rollers stop or decelerate.
In practice, the procedure is advantageously such that the rollers are individually set to a desired zero or starting position before the start of operation and are then put into operation together in synchronism.
2, 2a, 2b and 2c show exemplary embodiments for marks 1 which can be used according to the invention. According to FIG. 2, an area 6 on a printing cylinder W having holes 15 is covered by a more or less transparent lacquer application 6 in order to switch off scattered light from the holes 15. A Krels-shaped carrier 14 with holes or depressions 7 is attached as a mark 1 on the printing cylinder W in this covered area, for. B. glued or welded on, so that the wells or
Mark 1 having recesses 7 is surrounded by a non-reflecting area.
In Fig. 2a, a mark 1 is shown schematically in plan view and in an enlarged detail section, which has a cross shape and is itself formed by the holes 15 formed in the impression cylinder W. The area around the holes 7 representing the mark 1 is provided with a layer 20 made of lacquer, plastic or the like, in particular non-reflecting or covering the surrounding holes of the printing cylinder; the mark 1 is thus formed by the uncovered holes in the printing cylinder W.
2b shows a mark 1 formed on a carrier and fastened on the roller W or stamped or worked out in the roller W itself in a top view and a smaller section. It can be seen that the brand of e.g. B. triangular or rectangular depressions, preferably crossing grooves 17, is formed.
EMI2.1
or plates provided with projections or the like in question.
The attachment of carriers for brands or surveys is only sensible possible in roller areas that do not interact with other rollers, e.g. B. in protruding edge areas. The marks are expediently formed on the circumferential surface of the rollers in the form of depressions.
The mark 1 can thus be formed on individual carrier parts applied to the printing cylinders W or be formed by the printing cylinder itself. For an accurate detection of the marks 1, it is advantageous if these marks have pronounced depressions, in particular holes, since the light reflected from the walls of the depressions or projections as a representative signal and not light reflected from surfaces running parallel or essentially parallel to the circumference of the cylinder should be detected.
This eliminates false detections due to surface defects in the cylinder.
3 shows a detailed view of an exemplary embodiment of an arrangement according to the invention. According to the invention, a sensor device 3 is located just above a printing roller W, in which a mark 1 is formed. The sensor device 3 comprises an illumination device 8 which, for. B. in the form of
EMI2.2
leads are. The light guides or their seat 24 mounted in the housing 9 of the sensor device 3 have light exit surfaces 25, with which the emerging light 23 strikes the mark 1 at a small beam opening angle, in particular directed almost tangentially to the roller. For this reason, the light reflected by the surface of the mark 1 or the roller W is reflected at a small angle into the environment and only that from the rare or
Inner surfaces or light reflected from radially or approximately radially oriented surfaces 18 of the holes 15 or the depressions 17 or projections 19 reaches the sensor unit 3 as a light signal.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
To save space, there is a deflection prism 10 in the sensor unit 3, with which the reflected light is guided into the lens 11 of a video camera, in particular a CCD camera 12.
The image of the brand 1 can thus be identified without any problems and can be located in the image evaluation by z. B. Detection of center of gravity detected! or compared with a saved image of the brand. Cross-shaped characters in particular are advantageous for the detection since they are particularly easy to evaluate.
To form the mark, it is advantageous if the holes 15 of the printing roller W are filled with lacquer in an area 6 except for the locations that will later produce the respective pattern of the mark. In most cases, the entire roller is provided with holes 15 and the negative image of the desired pattern is made visible or formed with masking lacquer on the surface of the printing roller. This masking varnish can be opaque or, depending on the color, more or less transparent. In the case of continuous pressure rollers or rollers without holes, the pattern can be formed with perforations 7 and / or depressions 17 and / or projections 19 directly without using a covering surface on the pressure roller.
A number of light guides, which are combined to form a lighting ring, could also be provided as the lighting device. The mark 1 can thus be illuminated from all sides, so that a uniform reflection of the incident light from the inner walls of the recesses 7, 15 or depressions 17 present in the mark can be detected.
The deflection of the diffuse from the approximately radially extending reflected light into the lens of the camera 12 can be done with the help of the prism 10 or with appropriate bundles of light guides.
It would be possible to arrange a fiber optic or a mirror instead of the prism 10, which feeds the incoming image of a remote camera unit to a CCD camera or a line scan camera. However, a simple construction provides that the camera 12, the deflecting device 10, the lighting device 8 and optionally the light source are each at least partially arranged in the common housing 9 in order to produce a compact unit.
Advantageously, the camera 12 has a device for distance adjustment in order to be able to focus on the mark 1.
The illuminating devices 8 radiate essentially tangentially to the surface of the roller W and / or essentially parallel to a roller end, so as to avoid reflections of the directionally irradiated light into the light receiving opening 13. This clearly improves the definitive recognition of a brand.
It is particularly advantageous if the distance of the light receiving opening 13 from the surface of the roller W is less than 10 mm, in particular less than 5 mm; it has been shown that a distance of less than 3 mm is optimal. The smaller this distance is. the less interference from extraneous light occurs and the intensity of the lighting can be reduced with good detectability.
The image processing software of the image processing or evaluation unit 4 can e.g. B. provide automatic thresholds for incident light so that the light reflected by the marks 1 can be detected as the presence of this mark. It could e.g. B. it may be provided that the entry of a bar or the end of a bar of a cruciform mark into the image area detected by the video camera already serves as a signal in order to initiate an evaluation aimed at the bar extending transversely to the bar end entering the image, which shows a linear extension parallel to the axial direction of the roller W to determine. Such evaluation programs are easy to create by a person skilled in the art.
The arrival of the mark 1 at the detected point is evaluated in such a way that either this roller and / or the other rollers are (are) adjusted by changing the rotational speed and / or stopping. The possibilities for mutual angular positioning of the rollers are varied depending on the detected mark.
Provision is advantageously made for the housing 9, in particular the water inlet opening 13, to be watertight in order to prevent the ingress of liquids or water during operation.
