Abstract

Such projectiles generally consist of a projectile casing and a core. Versions are also known in which the projectile jacket forms two chambers, but also storeys with a solid rear part and a relatively small lead insert in the front part of the storey (e.g. ABC storey). In addition, some projectile forms are provided with notches on the outside or inside of the casing, which essentially run axially towards the tip in order to produce a controlled flag formation. The same effect is aimed for with a crown-like shape of the jacket on the front of the floor. During the penetration of the game blanket, the projectile jacket tears open along these notches, which facilitates deformation of the projectile tip. The aim of the invention is to avoid these disadvantages and to provide a hunting projectile which practically has the desired rolled-up shape of the individual segments of the jacket away from the point of impact.

According to the invention, this aim is achieved in a hunting projectile of the type mentioned at the outset in that the notches in the front projectile chamber have increasing depth towards the projectile tip and divide the chamber wall into individual segments in its foremost region.

This measure significantly accelerates the rolling up of the individual segments, since the relatively high energy required for crack formation does not have to be applied, but only the substantially lower energy which is sufficient for crack propagation.

The rapid roll-up can also be promoted by the fact that when the projectile jacket is pressed around the core, the individual segments are placed on top of one another in a scale-like manner so that the roll-up direction is favored by the direction of swirl. This is the case if the segment edge leading in the swirl direction is arranged radially outside the segment edge lagging in the swirl direction.

In one embodiment of the invention it is provided that the notches have an asymmetrical cross section. This makes it possible to adapt the overlapping areas of the individual segments to the respective floor use and thus to influence the rolling up of the segments to the flags.

In Fig. 1, a projectile according to the invention is shown, partly in section. The projectile consists of the projectile jacket (1), the top-side filling (3.1) and the bottom-side filling (3.2). The projectile casing (1), which is preferably produced by pulling, forms two chambers for the two fillings. In the area of the tip-side end of the jacket (1), notches (4) are provided which run essentially axially. These notches reach such a depth, at least on the tip-side edge (5) of the projectile casing, that they divide the casing (1) into individual segments. The notches thus form cracks or slits in the area of the tip-side jacket end (5), from which the progressive division of the front area of the jacket (1) starts.

Four notches (4) are preferably provided, evenly distributed along the circumference, but this number can be changed without problems. However, less than three notches are not cheap.

The notches on the projectile jacket (1) are preferably made by plastic deformation during its manufacture, if it has a cylindrical shape. However, it is of course also possible to produce the notches by machining.

In a particular embodiment, the cross section of the notches transverse to their longitudinal extension is asymmetrical, so that when the projectile jacket (1) is deformed around the front core (3.1), which in a preferred embodiment of the invention overlaps the individual segments, this is a preferred contour let develop. In particular, the radially outer flank of the notch in the finished projectile may correspond to a meridian plane, in order to particularly promote the rolling up of the flags.
