The procedure is as follows: The jacket B is pushed onto the conductor A, except for the pliers holding the conductor, whereby the jacket, as already mentioned, fits as closely as possible on the conductor; the worker holds the free end of the ladder.

The conductor together with the jacket B is then inserted with the end of the latter facing away from the pliers between the converging, oppositely directed flames (FIG. 5) until this end is fused to the conductor. The coat B then becomes its whole
Proceeding lengthways and as quickly as possible through the flame in such a way (Fig. 5 to 7) that it is progressively melted along its entire length to the conductor.

   During this
When the jacket passes through the flame, it is not only melted or softened and melted onto the conductor, but the impact of the flame gases against the jacket presses the latter, while it is soft, against the conductor, so that the very largest Part of the air is expelled from the jacket, while at the same time the conductor is not exposed to the direct action of the flame and cannot otherwise oxidize.

Instead of the conductor being in the form of a band, it can also have any other flat cross-sectional shape, so that its surface area is as large as possible compared to the mass per unit length. The conductor could also consist of a round wire that is flattened at the points where a jacket is to be melted.

The conductors produced as indicated and provided with the coatings can then be melted in glass or glass-like material in the usual way at the points where they are provided with the coatings, whereby a good, permanently tight melting point is obtained.

Most metals can be used in accordance with the present invention, the most suitable are those which are not very easily oxidizable and which do not contain too much occluded gases. The latter, incidentally, can be driven out in any suitable way and one
