Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

The invention relates to a spacer for insulating washers, consisting of two interconnected metal strips, which form rows of chambers for accommodating hygroscopic material between them by forming at least one strip and of which the strip assigned to the inside of the pane has air passage openings in the chamber area
Band-shaped spacers can be easily manufactured in and of themselves and only immediately before the insulating pane is installed, they allow the production of any frame with just one butt joint, they can be stored and kept ready on wheels to save space, and they are also relatively simple with hygroscopic material for to fill a dehumidifier of the interior of the insulating pane.

So far, however, the metal strips have been connected to one another by injecting adhesive, as a result of which the production speed of the spacer is limited due to the drying and / or cooling times of the adhesive or long cooling and curing distances have to be provided, which impairs the economy of insulating glass production and the space requirement and construction costs of manufacturing facilities increased. In addition, the compatibility and mutual influence of adhesive and hygroscopic material must be observed in order to avoid damage to the adhesive connection or loss of effectiveness during dehumidification.

The invention is therefore based on the object to remedy these shortcomings and to provide a spacer of the type described, which is characterized by its particularly inexpensive and quick production possibility, ensures a permanent secure connection of the metal strips and the best prerequisites for the effect unaffected by external influences of the hygroscopic material.

The invention solves this problem in that the formations lie within continuous edge strips of the metal strips and the metal strips are connected to one another along these edge strips by longitudinal folds, preferably double longitudinal folds, the folds having a support leg perpendicular to the strip plane. These folds can be produced continuously at practically any speed using effortless folding devices and connect the two metal strips with lasting security and tightness. The flexibility required to insert the spacers into the insulating washers is not hindered and the spacer can also be folded as desired between the chambers.

In the manufacture of the spacer, there is no adhesive or sealant jeopardizing the effect of the hygroscopic material and the support legs formed by the folds enable the spacer to be inserted between the insulating washers in a stable manner and offer large sealing surfaces for a secure seal between the washers and the spacer.

According to DE-OS 31 43 659 there are also desiccant insert strips for hollow spacer profiles, which insert strips consist of two strips forming between desiccant receiving chambers which can be connected by knurling, but these insert strips must first be made into the actual ones for spacer manufacture Spacer profiles are used, which in any case increases the manufacturing effort considerably.

In the drawing, the subject matter of the invention is illustrated purely schematically in one exemplary embodiment, specifically FIGS. 1 and 2 show the two metal strips of a spacer according to the invention before and after their mutual connection in each case in the diagram.

A spacer (1) for an insulating pane, not shown, consists of two metal strips (2, 3), one of which faces the inside of the pane (2), air passage openings (4) and the other
 EMI1.1
their smooth edge strips (2a, 3a) on top of each other and are connected to each other by longitudinal edge folds (6) running along these edge strips (2a, 3a). The result is a band-shaped spacer (1) with chambers (5) formed by the formations (5) for receiving hygroscopic material
 EMI1.2
the metal strips (2, 3) can first be slit or shaped and then immediately folded.

The folds (6) have support legs (6a) which ensure that the finished spacers (1) are processed safely.
