When raising flies or the like, there is a need for a device by which the larvae of these animals, which are in a food mass, are separated from this food base and collected before they pupate. There is no model for such a device.
The food base consists of a mush-like mass, which essentially contains the food necessary for the larvae in the form of flakes. Before being pupated, the larvae collect on the surface of the food base and the object of the invention is now to find a solution for the separation of larvae and food base.
According to the invention, this separation is achieved in a satisfactory manner by a larval collector which has a hexagonal drum with a cross-section which can be rotated about its longitudinal axis which can be brought into a horizontal or slightly inclined position, the six plates which form the drum shell and which alternately consist of perforated and imperforate sheet metal and the perforated plates are detachably connected to the adjacent panels, with screen cloths being loosely arranged on the inside of the perforated panels and a collecting funnel being provided below the drum.
In the drawing, the object of the invention is shown in section.
In a frame consisting of a frame --1-- a drum, generally designated as --2--, is rotatably mounted. The drum casing consists of three perforated plates --3-- and three non-perforated plates. The plates --3 and 4-- have flanges --6-- directed radially outwards on their edges parallel to the drum axis --5--, between which sieve cloths --7-- are clamped with their corresponding edges. It is important that the screen cloth is loosely arranged and does not lie tight against the perforated panels --3-- inside. The panels --4-- are firmly connected with circular end disks -, while the removable perforated panels --3-- can be connected to the fixed panels --4-- by means of quick fasteners (not shown) on their flanges --6--.
The front discs --8-- have a ring gear --9-- which meshes with the drive pinion --10-- of an electric motor. For rotatable mounting, the front disks --8-- run on three rollers --12--, which are mounted on the frame --1--. This frame --1-- can be pivoted about a horizontal axis, which runs parallel to the plane of the drawing, by means of hydraulic winches --13--, which are arranged in a base frame --14-and on which the frame-l-during the rotary movement the drum rests. In the base frame --14-- there is a collecting funnel -15-which can be closed with a bottom -16-.
The face plates --8-- are equipped with filling and emptying openings.
About 40% of the drum is filled with the mixture of larvae and their food base and set in slow rotation. The larvae penetrate the surface and, due to the circulation of the mixture, take turns on smooth plates or on a sieve cloth. The mesh size of this screen cloth is adapted to the larval size and was 2 mm in the example shown. The larvae penetrate the sieve cloth and migrate outwards through the perforation. The hole diameter of the perforation is not critical, but there should be a favorable relationship between the hole diameter and the web width. Hole diameters of 10 to 15 mm have proven successful. A hole width of 13 mm is preferred.
In the course of the rotation, the larvae reaching the outside of the shell fall into the collecting funnel - -15--, which is largely filled with water or another suitable liquid. The larvae are unable to remove themselves from the bath in the collecting funnel. After a sufficiently long time, all or almost all larvae have reached the liquid bath and can be removed from there for further treatment.
To remove the remaining food base in the drum and to clean it, it is advisable to bring the drum into a correspondingly inclined position to the horizontal.
