EMI2.1

EMI2.1
In order to make a copy on such an electrolytic metal plate, as with stone, the surface must be treated with a solution that causes a chemical reaction that makes the plate capable of making a large number of prints.
This pretreatment consists in succession of 1. carefully cleaning the surface with pure alcohol, 2. pressing the trigger in the same way as on the stone, 3. washing with very dilute nitric acid mixed with powdered calcium carbonate; after about two minutes have elapsed, the plate is washed with water, then gummed vigorously and trcr. 4. the blackening of the plate with a hand roller, as with stone. You can then add some talc and resin in powder form with the addition of a little American potash (Chile's nitrate) to the washing water and finally give it a heavy gum.
EMI2.2
On the other hand, as soon as such plates are to be reused for a new set, it is easy to remove the old set without the costly scraping, tracing and graining, as is the case with stone and the metals previously used.
Then proceed as follows: 1. the writing (drawing) is loosened with turpentine spirit, 2. the plate is carefully washed off, 3. the impression with chilli nitrate in a concentrated solution using a tampon with the addition of a little triple earth so as not to scratch the surface,
EMI2.3
Washed off with a dilute solution of sulfuric acid and finally, if necessary, with a solution of very dilute potassium dichromate.
