Hohlräume aufweisen, welche in
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

When casting and in particular when injection molding metal moldings that are not continuous
Having bores or the like cavities, the problem arises that it is not possible to work with solid cores, since these cannot be pulled out of the bores. Cumbersome molding of sand cores is required, and these sand cores then have to be removed from the molding in a time-consuming manner. Apart from that, sand cores do not produce smooth holes.
The invention aims at eliminating these disadvantages and consists in a method for casting, in particular injection molding, of moldings made of metal which have bores or the like
Do not go through the direction of its axis to the outside, in that first a preform having a through hole or the like is made from the material of the molding to be produced, that then the continuous hole is closed to the outside and finally the preform as a core in a known manner a mold is used and encapsulated or overmolded.
Since the preform has a bore that is open to the outside, a solid metallic core can easily be used for the production of a preform, and a bore with smooth walls is thus produced in a simple manner
Demolding the preform is possible in the simplest possible way. This preform, which is inserted into the mold for the production of the preform like a core, combines with the cast material when the preform is cast, and since the material of the preform is the same as the cast material, a homogeneous preform is created. It is only necessary to close off the cavity of the preform so that it does not fill up when the preform is poured.
According to the invention, the preform for carrying out the method according to the invention therefore essentially consists in that it has the through hole or the like cutting transverse bores, the diameter of which is at least the same as that of the diameter of the through bore, and that retaining pins of the Intervene form that complete the through hole. In order to ensure full tightness of the closure of the cavity of the preform, according to the invention the transverse bores can be drilled to the diameter of the holding pins of the mold. In a further embodiment of the invention, the retaining pegs of the mold that engage in the transverse bores of the core can penetrate the transverse bores to their end.
The holding pins of the mold that engage in the transverse bores of the preform can form recesses for transverse bores of the preform, the material surrounding the transverse bores of the preform being drilled out during the production of the transverse bores of the preform. In this case, even if the connection between the material cast onto the preform and the preform is not flawless, the full homogeneity of the material will be guaranteed precisely at critical points.
In the drawing, the invention is explained schematically on the basis of an exemplary embodiment, which shows a mold half for producing a mixer tap in side view.
The metal molding is produced by injection molding in a mold consisting of two halves, one mold half - 1 - being shown in the drawing. In order to center the two mold halves against one another, the mold half has - 1 - bores - 2 - into which pins of the other mold half, not shown, engage when the two mold halves are joined. A cavity - 3 - is provided in both mold halves, the cavities being one of those to be injected when the mold is assembled
EMI1.1
In order to produce a mixer tap that has a non-continuous bore, for example, a preform --6-- is first made from the material of the mixer tap to be produced, which is shown in section in the drawing. Since the bores --7, 7 '- of this preform --6-- open at least at one end to the surface of the preform, these bores can be made by means of a solid metallic core during the production of the preform, so that a smooth surface this drilling is achieved. The preform - 6 - is equipped with the open ends of the bores - 7, 7 '- cutting transverse bores - 8, 8' - whose diameter is at least the same as the diameter of the bores - 7, 7 ' -.
In these transverse bores - 8, 8 '- holding pins - 9, 9' - are now inserted, which are connected to thorns - 10, 10 'which can be moved up and down. The transverse bores - 8, 8 '- are machined in particular before inserting the retaining pins - 9, 9' - so that these retaining pegs - 9, 9 '- are seated precisely in the transverse bores 8, 8' --is guaranteed. This processing of the cross bores can be done with a double drilling machine, in which two drills are sunk into the two cross bores - 8, 8 '- at the same time. In this way, not only the desired diameter of these transverse bores, but also the distance between the two transverse bores from one another is precisely maintained.
The two retaining pegs - 9, 9 '- not only serve to hold the preform - 6 -, but the bores - 7, 7' - are also closed by these pegs, so that no metal is used during the injection molding process can enter these holes.
Between the two mandrels - 10, 10 '- an additional mandrel - 11 - is provided, which on the one hand causes and prevents a support of the preform --6-- between the two retaining pins - 9, 9' - that this preform - 6 - is deformed during the injection molding process, and on the other hand it serves as a metallic core for the production of another hole.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In the manufacture of the fitting, the procedure is now that the preform --6 - after machining the transverse bores - 8, 8 '- is applied to the two retaining pins - 9, 9'. The seat of the two retaining pins - 9, 9 '- in the transverse bores - 8, 8' - is dimensioned so that the preform --6-- is prevented from sliding off the retaining pin. The mandrels 10, 10 'and 11 are then lowered and at the same time the two mold halves are closed so that the preform is now in the position shown in the drawing in the cavity -3-. Furthermore, a tongue --12-- is pushed into the mold from below, which forms a core for the outlet opening of the battery.
The liquid metal is then injected into the cavity --3-- through the opening --4-- and the channel-5--, which connects to the preform --6-- made of the same material, so that a homogeneous molding will be produced. After the metal has solidified, the mold is opened and at the same time the mandrels - -10, 10 'and 11-- are pulled upwards and the tongue --12-- downwards out of the mold. The sprue created in the channel --5-- is broken off and the molded part can be sent for further processing.
