Description

 EMI1.1

 EMI1.1

The subject of the present invention is a lifting magnet, by means of which it is to be made possible to utilize its tensile force more effectively than before, even when lifting loads which differ significantly in size and appearance.

Attempts have already been made, with no small success, to lift larger numbers of irregular bodies next to one another by arranging poles that are movable within the magnetic core. If, however, it was a question of lifting and moving many small parts or a large number of only small ones in addition to larger loads, then such a division of the magnetic force was not sufficient. Air layers were created between the individual magnets and the bodies to be grasped due to uneven contact, which naturally almost canceled the magnetic lines of force.

According to the present invention, this objection is to be countered by inserting an intermediate between the load and the magnet, consisting of a suitably large amount of magnetically conductive material, for example iron filings. As the drawing illustrates, this intermediate encloses the lower effective area of the magnet a. When the magnet approaches, the bodies b to be gripped will press into the material of the intermediate means, so that the harmful interstices are filled and as a result the path of the lines of force is no longer interrupted by interstices with poor magnetic conductivity.

When the current is interrupted, the conductive intermediate means are released at the same time as the load.

Of course, instead of the iron filings cited as an example, any other suitable magnetically highly conductive material can be selected without changing the essence of the invention, and of course the magnet shape will have to be selected according to the respective conditions.

The switched-in intermediate material (iron filings or the like) can also be mechanically attached to the magnet in an all-round flexible casing.
