qualitativ hochwertiges Konzentrat erhalten.

primary sludge substances, in particular clays, are removed by cyclone separation, the lower layer of such separation being passed through a second cyclone separation stage which works in a closed circuit with a cement feed device and a ball mill. This treatment and separation causes the particle size to be reduced to less than 0.074 mm, and the ore brought to this size is slurried to a solids content of about 355 °, conditioned and sent to the first flotation stage at a temperature of more than 32 ° C brought in.
This flotation separation removes a considerable part of the silicic acid and lime-containing impurities, which is discharged and the sludge fraction that was not separated out by the cyclone separation is also discharged with the separated concentrate.
The non-floated residue from the first flotation separation stage is fed to a conditioning stage in which the pushers are mixed before such non-floated solids are subjected to a second flotation treatment, which consists of a plurality of stages of both coarser and finer cycles, in the preferred embodiment According to the invention, a flow sheet is used which is essentially the same as that described in Austrian patent specification No. 266733. As mentioned in this patent, the tall oils are a substitute material for the oleic acid preferably used in this treatment. In the previously known processes, the tall oil reagent was essentially insoluble in water and therefore difficult to disperse in the turbidity.
The tall oil collector also tended to increase in concentration as the pulp passed through a large number of cells with the addition of collector reagent in stages, which often led to the flotation of part of the dolomite content with a consequent reduction in the quality of the final concentrate.
Accordingly, according to the invention, emulsified tall oil collector reagents are used in the flotation enrichment of the magnesite content of magnesite pulp, a relatively high-quality concentrate being obtained at low costs for the reagents.
According to the invention, a group of emulsifiable tall oil collector reagents is used for the magnesite ore concentration, in which the emulsifiers are non-ionic surface-active substances which effectively disperse the tall oil as colloidal particles in the water of an aqueous slurry, so that these particles are easier and more effective with the magnesite grains in the area to be treated May be brought into contact with turbidity.
The invention thus relates to an effective and economical flotation treatment of magnesite ore through the use of emulsifiable tall oil fatty acid collector reagents in conjunction with suppressors for the silica and calcareous contaminants of the ore.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that the emulsifiable tall oil fatty acid collector reagent is fed in a plurality of stages to the slurry subjected to the froth flotation in the number of stages corresponding to the number of stages, the total amount of the collector to be fed being such that, overall, practically the entire magnesite content of the slurry fed to the separation is floated.
The investigation of the advantages obtained from the use of an emulsifiable tall oil collector reagent in the flotation enrichment of the magnesite content of magnesite ores revealed that the emulsifiable collectors can be made in different ways and by mixing materials of different chemical compositions. In general, the desired type of emulsifiable collector reagent is prepared by mixing a low resin tall oil acid with a nonionic surfactant composition, and preferably the latter is a condensation product of nonylphenol with ethylene oxide. The addition of the surfactant to tall oil acid can be from 5 to 15% by weight and generally the best results are obtained when 10% is added.
Commercially available surfactants effective in the treatment of the present invention are a condensation product of nonylphenol and ethylene oxide represented by the following formula
EMI2.1
a non-ionic condensation product of nonylphenol and ethylene oxide, a condensation product of nonylphenol and ethylene oxide, a non-ionic condensation product of ethylene oxide with a fatty acid and a condensation product of coconut fatty acid and diethanolamine. The tall oil and surfactant can be used as a mixture or separately from different reagent delivery devices.

services are added.
After describing the type of ores which are treated according to the invention and specifying a typical flow diagram for carrying out a preferred treatment, a typical example of a comparative experiment is described below. The comparative experiment uses the same ore, procedure, and reagents except that no surfactant was added to the tall oil collector in the first attempt and 10% of a condensation product of nonylphenol and ethylene oxide was added in the second attempt to form an emulsion. In these two tests, the ore was prepared exactly as described in Austrian patent specification No. 266733 by breaking, desludging and grinding to a particle size of about 0.074 mm with the addition of cement to the grinding circuit.
Then, in a first flotation treatment using an amine collector reagent for the silica and lime-containing impurities, these impurities were removed, with essentially the entire magnesite content of the ore charge

Flotation separation residue remained. This non-floated residue was placed in a conditioning stage in which its solids content was conditioned with a mixture of sodium hexametaphosphate, sodium silicate and aluminum sulfate dissolved in an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid. The conditioned ore pulp was fed to a magnesite flotation unit with a raw part, a cleaning part and a post-cleaning part, the final concentrate being obtained.
In each experiment, identical amounts of reagents were added, with the collector reagent being added in small amounts as described in the above patent, and it was found that the addition of the surfactant resulted in a looien increase in the weight yield of magnesite without the Quality of concentrate changed The results of the above tests are given below:

On the basis of these comparative experiments and other similar investigations and observations, it was found that the addition of non-ionic reagent has the advantage that the tall oil fatty acid is made emulsifiable, so that the tall oil after adding the same as a collector reagent of the second flotation treatment as colloidal particles in the water the aqueous slurry is dispersed, which particles are more easily and efficiently brought into contact with the magnesite grains.
This more effective contact results in more complete utilization of the fatty acid content in each stage of incorporation and reduces the possibility of progressive accumulation of significant amounts of collector in the pulp which could otherwise initiate dolomite flotation in later stages due to the increased concentration in the pulp. An important economic advantage is also achieved through the lower requirement for collector for the total flotation in the second flotation treatment while maintaining the desired quality of the concentrate.
As referred to in this specification, "minor amounts" mean an amount of reagent which is substantially less than the minimum amount required to impregnate or coat magnesite surfaces sufficiently to cause flotation of all or most of the magnesite content of the pulp cause. Any part of the total magnesite content that receives an insufficient coating or impregnation in the first stage receives an adequate coating or impregnation in a later stage and this process floats all or a large part of the magnesite before the pulp is finally discarded from the multi-stage flotation treatment.
As a result of the action of the pushers in preventing the flotation of silica or calcareous contaminants and the limited amount of collectors in each flotation stage, a

get high quality concentrate.
