Exhaust gas cleaning and silencer device
The invention relates to a cleaning and silencer device, preferably for pulsating exhaust gases flowing out under excess pressure, in particular from internal combustion engines, with a housing jacket delimiting a closed cavity, the line of intersection of which with a plane laid through the housing longitudinal center line is at least partially designed as a second-order curve, with the gas supply line is connected tangentially or approximately tangentially to the housing jacket.
Silencer devices of this type are already known. Relevant for the earlier
Suggestions were the realization that according to the laws on which the conic sections are based, for example, a guide ray emanating from the focal point of a parabola is reflected back on the parabolic wall parallel to the focal axis of the parabola, so that, transferred to the spatial system of a paraboloid, one at or near the focal point The gas flow brought to the outlet is deflected parallel to the focal point and axis of symmetry of the paraboloid formed as a body of revolution around this axis.
For the same reason, hollow ellipsoids have been proposed as housing jackets in order to be able to deflect the exited gas flow, which is reflected on the wall, to the other focal point when a gas flow emerges near one of the two focal points. The assumption here was that such reflections can shift the frequencies in relation to one another, which the sound oscillations have, so that sound amplitudes are at least partially canceled out.
The proposal has also already been made to implement a design of the mufflers leading to a detoxification of the exhaust gases, in addition to sound attenuation, in which at least one line is provided which opens tangentially into the housing jacket and whose central axis is perpendicular to the housing longitudinal axis standing plane intersects at an acute angle, a discharge line for the agent, arranged coaxially to the housing longitudinal axis, being connected to the housing half, seen in the housing longitudinal direction, into which the supply line opens. The housing jacket is essentially designed as a hollow.
This leads to a space-spiral formation of the exhaust gas flow in the muffler with extraordinarily high vortex velocities in the vicinity of the ice tip, under the influence of which thermal-chemical reactions occur, which lead, for example, to a reduction in the CO content from 9.3% to 3, 4% or from 9.4% to 2.8%.
At the same time, the CO2 content increases from 8.5% when idling to 12.4% and from 8.0% at full load to 11.3%. The H2 content decreased from 4.2% to 1.3% when idling and from 4.3% to 1.1% at full load. Contents of CH4 and other hydrocarbons could no longer be determined at all. Only in special cases was it necessary to introduce oxygen, possibly in the form of atmospheric oxygen, or other reactants in order to be able to achieve similar, favorable conditions.

In the practical operation of such devices, however, it has been shown that they are relatively sensitive and can only achieve optimal values if they are relatively accurate
Coordination in terms of volume or size, training and arrangement to the engine conditions occurring in each case is carried out.
It is the object of the invention, while fundamentally maintaining the advantages set out, the for
To train detoxification and sound absorption serving device of the type mentioned in such a way that it is essentially independent of the type, size and design of the upstream
Internal combustion engine is.
The device for detoxification and soundproofing proposed to solve this problem is characterized according to the invention in that the cutting line is within an axially directed
Area that adjoins the confluence of the supply line in the cavity and in front of a
Outlet line for the exhaust gases essentially constant cross-section ends than to
Longitudinal center line of the housing is formed towards convex curve of the second order.
While within the stated range according to the earlier proposal, the curve second
Order was concave to the longitudinal center line, the convex formation leads to the mentioned, much greater insensitivity of the muffler, while on the other hand a substantial
Increase in beneficial effects was observed. The carbon oxide content goes back to 0.5% or 0.6% when idling. If air is introduced at the same time, the CO content is even reduced to 0.3% or 0.4%. At a speed of the motor of 2000 rpm, the numbers increase to the still minor values of 2.3% or 2.2% without the addition of air, to 0.7% or 0.6% with
Air addition. At the maximum speed of 4000 rev / min, the CO contents went to 1.9% without and
0.5% with the addition of air.
At the same time, the fuel consumption of the
Motor can be determined by 15% to 25%. That was also exceptionally favored
Sound attenuation, as the measurement of the phon showed. It is to be seen as an operational advantage that the exhaust gas and coolant temperatures of the engine did not show any increase.
A particularly effective design of the device is obtained when the curve is second
Order is a convex hyperbola. In this case, it is expedient to design the housing as a rotationally symmetrical hollow body which is axially symmetrical to its longitudinal center line with the intersection line which is convex to the longitudinal center line and thus the axis of rotation as a generator.
While it is of essential importance according to the above that the cutting line in the mentioned axial area of the housing runs as a second-order curve that is convexly bulged towards its longitudinal center line, there is a more free design possibility of the three-dimensional shape of the housing within the axially directed housing jacket area, which extends from a Front end of the housing extends from up to the course of the cutting line, within which it is designed as a second-order curve that is convex to the housing longitudinal center line, provided that the cutting line is concave in the mentioned area towards the longitudinal center line. It is of no essential importance whether the cutting line is part of a circle, an ellipse, a parabola, or whether it is ogival.
In any case, on the side of the housing jacket opposite to the exhaust gas discharge line, a preferably centrally arranged supply line for further working media such as air, water vapor, oxygen-enriched air or oxygen itself can be arranged. As already pointed out above, the addition of air at this point already has the effect of improving the properties of the muffler, as the carbon oxide content drops sharply below the limit that, according to current experience, is still permissible without poisoning the atmosphere the damage to health can occur.
The new design of the cleaning and silencer device leads to an advantageous arrangement in multi-cylinder engines with cylinders or rows of cylinders offset in the crank circle if a cleaning and silencer device is connected to each of the heads of the offset cylinders at the intersection of their longitudinal center lines, with the to the housing jackets leading supply lines for the exhaust gases run essentially parallel to one another.
The drawings show an example of an embodiment of the inventive concept. 1 shows a schematic longitudinal section through a muffler designed according to the invention, while FIG. 2 shows the arrangement for a boxer engine with two opposing cylinders.
In Fig. 1, the exhaust gas feed line coming from the engine is labeled --1--. The line - l - opens tangentially into the muffler housing - 2 - at - 3 -, with between
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the longitudinal center line 4-4 of the line-l- and a plane marked 5-5, which in turn is perpendicular to the longitudinal center line 6-6 of the muffler, the acute angle --7-- occurs. The three-dimensional shape of the muffler --2-- is initially made up of half a hollow sphere --8-- and
EMI3.1
Work equipment or several of the same. In general, the supply of air in the direction of arrow 13 is sufficient.
The line - 12 - protrudes slightly over the casing part --8 - towards the interior of the discharge pot, with guide surfaces -14- being provided in order to promote an occurring injector effect, which means that it is not necessary that the To introduce work equipment under positive pressure; rather it is sucked in automatically. This does not rule out the use of excess pressure, especially not in the event that, for example, water is to be injected or afterburning is to be carried out.
Fig. 2 shows the arrangement of two mufflers designed according to the invention - 15, 16 - in connection with a boxer engine, the crankcase of which is denoted by -17 and whose cylinders or rows of cylinders are denoted by -18, 19. The axes of these cylinders are in the crank circle
1800 staggered. This leads to the possibility of arranging the exhaust gas supply lines -20, 21- between the cylinder heads -22, 23- and the mufflers -15, 16- so that they run essentially parallel to one another.
The center lines of the mufflers cross each other, so that it is possible to arrange the discharge lines - -24, 25 - for the largely detoxified exhaust gases in the usual way, with relatively little space requirement, which in this case the mufflers -15, 16- with the development of only one low exhaust noise. This effect is due to the fact that a relatively large amount of energy is consumed in order to form the flow of the exhaust gases in the form of a space spiral indicated at --26-- in Fig. 1, so that there is a strong attenuation of the outflow noise. The high vortex speeds, in conjunction with the temperature of the muffler, lead to the chemical reactions mentioned.
This can be further promoted by the fact that the walls of the outlet housing --2-- are thermally insulated and that the appearance of bare iron walls delimiting the cavity is ensured, which have a catalytic effect, so that the chemical reactions are favored .
