Device for foot gymnastics for bedridden sick people
EMI1.1
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Frame constructed, which consists of four side parts-1, 2, 3, 4-. On the side part - 1 - of the device frame, the channel-shaped part-5-intended for receiving the leg is fastened in such a way that it is inclined slightly downwards towards the outside. This part is provided with padding on the floor and on both sides, the shape of which is approximately adapted to the shape of a lower leg, but this shape is not indicated in detail in the purely schematic representation of the drawing.
On the two side parts-2 and 3-of the frame there are vertical uprights -7-, between which a plate-shaped support -8-is arranged to be pivotable about an axis-9. The axle-9- is on the one hand mounted in the bearings --10-- firmly connected to the frame or its side parts-2 and 3 - and runs through the circular tabs that are attached to the support --8--. Under the action of a spring --12-- the support - is pressed against the stops --13-- attached to the uprights --7--.
The spring --12-- is provided with its one end on the side part-4 - of the frame, which is opposite the side part-l- to which the channel-shaped part for receiving the leg is attached, while the other end of the The spring at the lower end of the support --8-- engages, where it is attached, for example, by means of an eyelet --14--. The support --8-- is provided with padding --15-- on the side on which the sole of the foot is supported, which is only indicated by a dashed line in order to make the drawing in Fig. 2 easier to understand.
In order to be able to adapt the position of the device within the bed to its length and to the patient's position, in other words to be able to determine the distance between the support 8 and the foot end of the bed, a device is provided through which this distance

attached rods --17-- are connected to each other by a vertically arranged rod --18--. In Fig. 4 the tubular parts -16-, although they would actually be visible, are only indicated by dotted lines in order not to cover the bearings -10-.
In Fig. 3 and 4 the corresponding rods --17-- are left out.
EMI2.2
To adjust the position of the support-8- to the patient's position, the rods --17-- which can be moved in the tubular parts --16-- are adjusted in the axial direction until the vertical rod --18-- is on the surface of the foot of the bed. Then they are fixed with the help of locking devices, which are provided on the tubular parts -16-, for example by means of clamping screws -19- with a knurled head. Instead of clamping screws, other locking means can also be provided, for example eccentrics or others.
After the device has been fixed in its desired place inside the bed with the aid of the adjustment device described and the patient's leg has been brought into the channel-like part intended for its reception - 5 -, the sole of the foot is supported against the surface of the support - 8- or. against their upholstery --15--. Here the heel is not supported; between the support - 8 - and the channel-like part - 5 intended to receive the leg - there is namely an intermediate space which is designated in FIG. 2 with -A; this is to avoid chafing the heel.
The support is primarily intended to keep the foot in its natural position in relation to the leg; in and of itself it should therefore be in a perpendicular position to the central axis
EMI2.3
is held in the desired position by means of a locking device, which can consist of a suitable lock of any shape.
In the example chosen, this locking consists of the two rings -20- attached to the supports -7- and the ring -21- attached to the plate -8-, which is located below the middle of the upper edge of this plate near this edge it is appropriate; the rings -20-- are on both sides at the same height as the ring
EMI2.4
The foot serves as a support and prevents the tip of the foot from lowering or makes it possible to keep the foot in its natural right-angled position to the leg. On the other hand, the device allows you to do foot gymnastics from time to time with the help of the movable plate --8 - in order to prevent weakening of the muscles or to strengthen them.
It is sufficient to pull the rod --22-- out of the rings - 20, 21, 20- and thereby release the plate --8--. The patient can now move the foot, the sole of which is supported against the plate --8--, and this in the through the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Arrow - x - swivel the indicated direction against the force exerted by the spring --12 -.
In order to protect the feet of a bedridden sick person from the weight of the blanket, devices are already known which keep the blanket away from the patient's feet or feet. In order to simplify the handling of the devices to be provided in the bed, the device according to the invention can be provided with a device which allows the blanket to be held up over the patient's feet.
This device can, for example, consist of two triangular plates -23-
EMI3.1
The shape of the plate --8-- and the profile of the support -7- with the stop --13-- can be seen, which are located just below the rod --25--. This device is well suited to keeping the duvet away from the foot so that it is not necessary to place two different devices in the patient's bed.
Of course, two of the devices described can be firmly connected to one another by means of suitable connecting elements in order to fix both legs of the patient and at the same time protect the feet. On the other hand, it is also possible to manufacture a single device according to the invention which is designed so that it can accommodate both legs of the patient. In this case, the frame can be provided with a central web running in its longitudinal direction or in the longitudinal direction of the bed, on which a third support is located; this is then located between the two pivotable plates that serve as supports for the feet and separates them from one another so that each of them can be set or released for itself.
In this case, opposite each of these two plates, a channel-shaped part intended to receive the leg is attached to the frame.
The device can be made of any suitable material, for example wood or metal, preferably a light metal or metal injection molding, or plastic.
Of course, the embodiment described above is only an example, by means of which other possibilities for carrying out the inventive concept are not to be excluded.
