Material for implants, prostheses and tools
The invention relates to a material for implants, prostheses and tools for surgery and dentistry.
In surgery and dentistry, metals, such as gold, silver and steels, or synthetic organic material have been used until now as materials for implants and prostheses. All of these materials have disadvantages. Metals can dissolve quickly or slowly under the action of body fluids. In particular, it is known that the metallic implants used in dentistry can dissolve under the combined action of saliva and blood, which act simultaneously, since these two liquids often have a different pH and thus can generate corrosive electrical currents. On the other hand, implants and prostheses made of synthetic organic materials such as nylon can also be attacked by body fluids.
Often these synthetic organic materials can also secrete harmful substances, such as plasticizers, into the body.
The aim of the invention is to avoid these disadvantages by using a material made of oxide ceramic as the material for surgical implants and tools, in particular for implants, drills and taps for oral surgery.
Such oxide ceramic materials are already used as cutting ceramics for steel processing
EMI1.1
consists of tiny crystallites of a-AI203 that are closely matted with one another. It has the following properties: specific gravity 3.7-4.0 g / cm: hardness according to Mohs 9: pressure resistance 300 kg / mm · flexural strength 50 kg / mm.
Other examples of "Degussit" consist of aluminum oxide which has been sintered at high temperatures (1000-19000 C) in the presence of small amounts of binding agents such as Mo, TiC, Mo C, SiO or MgO. You can also use "Degussit", which consists of the oxides BeO, MgO or ZrO sintered at high temperatures.
All of these "degussites" can be used for the production of implants, especially for oral surgery. A practical approach is to drill a hole in the jawbone with a drill made of oxide ceramic, then cut a thread in this hole with a thread cutter made of oxide ceramic and then screw the implant, which has the shape of a screw, into this thread.
