Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
EMI1.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

For example 1: A batch of glass-coated stainless steel tubes, which were produced in an extrusion process, was immersed in a melt consisting of 12% by weight; 0 sodium nitrate, 10% by weight sodium chloride, 15% by weight potassium hydroxide and 63% by weight -0; 0 sodium hydroxide. The temperature was 480 ° C. and the treatment time was 30 seconds. After quenching in water and pickling in dilute acid, it was found that the entire surface layer of glass and scale had been removed by this single treatment.
Example 2: Workpieces made of titanium which had been subjected to an annealing process at 12000C were immersed in the molten salt according to Example 1. The scale layer on the surface of this material was also removed by a single treatment without the material taking up hydrogen.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method for cleaning, in particular for descaling metal surfaces in molten salts, which contain alkali hydroxide and nitrate, characterized in that a salt mixture is used at a treatment temperature below 5000C, which consists of 9-15 wt .-% sodium nitrate, 5-15 wt % Sodium chloride, 8-20% by weight potassium hydroxide and 50-78% by weight sodium hydroxide, the weight ratio of potassium hydroxide to sodium hydroxide being between 0.1 and 0.4.
