 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  Adjustment device for installation in a prosthetic limb
 EMI1.1

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 andat such an angle to this axis that the disc is thinner at one end of one diameter than at the other end thereof. The two disks of each pair are designed so that the axes of the two disks are in one line and the two are at right angles to them
Axis forming surfaces run parallel when the disks with the thinnest edge part of one disk are aligned with the thickest edge part of the other disk. By
Turning one disk about its axis against the other disk while maintaining contact between the inclined surfaces, the axes of the disks and thus the surfaces at right angles to these axes are inclined to one another.

   Maximum slope is obtained when the thinnest edges of all discs are oriented as shown in FIG.

   By using two pairs of such disks, a desired maximum angle of inclination between the outermost surfaces can be obtained with a relatively small inclination of the inclined
The surface of each disc and the adjustment of the plane in which this inclination is effected is made easier.

   The set of discs is held together by a bolt 7 which is passed through slots 8 and 9 in the upper and lower discs and through central openings in the intermediate discs. In practice, the bolt has a head with a spherical lower surface which engages in a spherical recess in an upper fastening plate attached to the upper end plate 1. Furthermore, it is provided with a screw thread at its lower end in order to receive a screw nut provided with a spherical head which engages in a spherical recess in a lower fastening plate attached to the lower end plate 2.

   This screw nut is connected to a worm wheel, which can be rotated with respect to the axis of the rod by means of a worm transmission using a tool that engages a square end of the worm. These parts are not illustrated since the principle is clear from the drawings.

   In use, the upper and lower end plates 1 and 2 are fixedly connected to the two parts of the prosthetic limb whose alignment with one another is desired and to the device which, prior to the final adjustment when the prosthetic limb is put on by the amputee, in an approximately desired one Location is brought.

   The anatomically correct setting for middle, transverse, forward and reverse as well as for twisted positions can then be achieved by sliding the upper and lower plates (or the slots arranged perpendicularly to one another therein) with respect to the bolt 7 and by rotating the four intermediate discs 3, 4, 5 and 6 can be made around the bolt to change the incline. When the adjustment is complete, the auger is rotated to hold the elements together.

   In the connection device illustrated in FIG. 6, two pairs of wedge-shaped disks 13, 14 and 15, 16 can be rotated about a locking pin 17 which extends from a ball 18.

   Removable levers 20 are provided to facilitate adjustment of the disks relative to one another.

   The end plates 21 and 22 of each device are mutually displaceable in two directions at right angles and can be fixed in the set position by means of set screws 23.

   One end 25 with a screw thread of the locking bolt 17 engages in the plate 21 and is itself connected to a locking disk 26 with a screw thread, which is fastened by means of a removable lever 27.

   The locking disc 26 has a small amount of play with the plate 21 and a partial rotation is sufficient to loosen it from the cohesive engagement with the discs 13, 14, 15 and 16.

   The threaded socket 28 for the ball 18 is provided with surfaces for engagement by a suitable wrench and partial rotation is sufficient to allow free relative movement between the ball and socket.

   A central tubular part 30 which is telescopically inserted into connecting tubes 31 and 32 forms the substantial part of the length of the link.

   Slots 33 and 34 in the tubes 31 and 32 surround stud screws 35 and 36 which are inserted into openings in the part 30 and when the clamps 37 and 38 are released, the length can be finely adjusted by relative screwing movement. Coarser length adjustments can be achieved by providing further openings in the tubes 31 and 32 and in the central tubular part 30.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   To carry out the adjustment (after the length adjustment) of the inclination and alignment as well as the lateral displacement, the lever 27 is inserted into the locking disk 26 and used to screw on the disk 26 by a partial rotation. The socket 28 is similarly freed with a wrench and the end plate set screws 23 are loosened.

   The inclination of the end plates 21, 22 is then adjusted by partially rotating the wedge-shaped disks 13, 14, 15 and 16 and the locking disk 26 is tightened.

   The orientation of the upper and lower end plates can be adjusted by rotating the ball and socket before tightening the socket with the wrench.

   The appropriate position front, rear or side is set by moving the end plates 21 and 22 relative to each other and the studs 30 are tightened.
