1. Verfahren zur Herstellung oberflächenaktiver,   nichtcyclischer Xylitester   von Fettsäuren, die 6 bis 30 Kohlenstoffatome enthalten, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass ein niedrigerer Alkylester einer Fettsäure mit 6 - 30 Kohlenstoffatomen mit wenigstens drei Molen Xylit pro Mol des erwähnten Alkylesters in Gegenwart eines alkalischen Katalysators und in Dimethylformamid oder Dimethylsulfoxyd als Lösungsmittels umgesetzt wird, indem unter Stickstoffatmosphäre bei einem Druck von 250 bis 300 mm Hg 12 - 24 h auf 90-100 C erhitzt wird, worauf die erhaltene Reaktionsmasse mit Hexan behandelt, der nicht umgesetzte Xylit abfiltriert, das Lösungsmittel abdestilliert und der Rückstand aus einem Lösungsmittel umkristallisiert wird.

1.
