When a latex is concentrated to increase the solids content, it is an inherent increase in viscosity. It should therefore be noted that by reducing the viscosity according to the invention, the latex can be concentrated to a higher solids content than that of the original latex before treatment without increasing the viscosity above the original value or above a desired level.
In the past, a latex that had an initial viscosity below a maximum acceptable level at a comparatively low solids content could only be concentrated until the viscosity was at the maximum acceptable level, although the solids content could still be too low and another concentration brought no benefit due to the undesirable increase in viscosity. The invention makes it possible to treat such a latex to reduce its original viscosity, the latex having a much higher solids content after concentration without the viscosity going beyond the maximum acceptable level.
