Heating cylinder with electric heating for paper webs or the like.

An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown in the drawing. Show it :
1 shows an axial longitudinal section through part of the cylinder and FIG. 2 shows a section along the line II-II in FIG. l. The heating cylinder has an iron cylinder jacket 1 with side walls 2, which are rotatably mounted on a fixed pin 4 via ball bearings 3. A sprocket 5 is used to drive the cylinder.
In the interior of the heating cylinder, an induction coil charged with alternating current is fixed in such a way that it generates an alternating magnetic flux in the cylinder jacket 1 and thus causes the cylinder jacket to be heated by eddy currents.
The induction coil 6 has a number of turns of an electrical conductor 7 that run around the cylinder jacket 1 and are coaxial with it. This is preferably made of hollow copper in order to allow a coolant to flow through. Distributed on the circumference of the cylinder are the turns of the coil 6, lamellar iron yokes 8 which encompass the windings and which transmit the magnetic flux via air gaps 9 to the rotating cylinder jacket 1. These yokes 8 with the entire coil body are supported by two disks 10 placed on the fixed pin 4.
The cylinder jacket 1 also forms the magnetic circuit for the induction coil 6 and also a short-circuited turn around the coil 6. The alternating current in the coil 6 thus generates an im
Cylinder jacket 1 circulating eddy current, whose energy in the cylinder jacket 1 as a result of the ohmic
Losses are converted into heat and heated practically evenly.
In the embodiment described, the heating heat is generated directly in the cylinder jacket 1. There are no parts inside the cylinder that could be heated to a higher temperature. On the contrary, the parts inside only receive heat indirectly through conduction or radiation
Cylinder jacket and the bearings are not exposed to high temperatures. However, as described, the electrical conductors of the coils can be kept cool by passing a coolant through their inner cavity.
The ends of the conductors 7 are passed through the inner cavity of the pin 4 into the open. Since the coil 6 is fixed, no sliding contacts are required.
In the case of heating drums with a relatively large axial length, a plurality of coil parts of the type described are expediently arranged axially next to one another. In order to avoid a noticeable unevenness of the temperature in the axial direction in the event of strong heat dissipation from the cylinder jacket, the coils could for example be arranged so as to be axially displaceable and could be

Thermostats are scanned and controlled by influencing the power supply to the induction coil.
For the energy supply to the coils, it is advisable to use alternating current at mains frequency (50 resp.
60 Hz) is used. It is possible to work with low voltages, which do not pose any dangers even in damp conditions.
