Process for the production of permanent printed images on opaque polyvinyl chloride films
EMI1.1
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
If it is expediently carried out using screen printing, colors must be used. which are resistant to grease and alcohol so that the printing ink that is applied later is not dissolved.
After the light base color has dried well, the letterpress is carried out. A photographically etched cliché can be used for this. An alcohol- or fat-soluble ink is preferred as the letterpress ink.
After the letterpress ink has dried, varnishing is carried out. The application of the top coat can be done by screen printing or by spraying. You can also apply the paint with the help of rollers. Any commercially available paint for PVC paints is suitable as a top coat. However, it should be noted that the lacquer should be heat-resistant and should be able to withstand subsequent welding. A cyclohexanone-soluble lacquer is preferred,
The method according to the invention can be used for single-color printing and for multi-color printing.
The reproduction of photographic reproductions is very easy in this way; the raster image is reproduced with extraordinary sharpness. The process is also economical for small runs.
In the case of multicolor prints, pretreatment of the film by heat treatment has proven to be useful. This tempering reduces the shrinkage of the film and increases the register accuracy. According to a preferred embodiment, the heat treatment is repeated after the individual pieces have been cut from the roll. The individual pieces can be fed continuously on a conveyor belt through a flow channel equipped with infrared lamps.
With a passageway of 4 m length, which is equipped with 3 - 4 infrared lamps, an irradiation height of about 30 cm and a pass speed of 20 to 25 seconds, the shrinkage is reduced to a minimum, so that perfect reproductions in four-color printing with excellent registration accuracy can be obtained.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method for producing permanent printed images on opaque polyvinyl chloride films, characterized in that the surface of a polyvinyl chloride free of migratory plasticizers is chemically roughened by treatment, expediently in a screen printing process, with a PVC-dissolving solvent to which a dye may be added, the roughened surface is positively printed in the letterpress process using a customary water-, fat- or alcohol-soluble printing ink and the print is then covered with a transparent varnish.
