Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Seating and reclining furniture
The invention relates to single and reclining furniture, in particular a folding bench with a backrest and a seat part supported against a frame, the backrest being pivotably articulated on the frame and the seat part and the backrest being pivotably connected to one another, according to the Austrian patent
No. 227400. It is the object of the invention. to design a piece of furniture of the type mentioned so that it can be used as universally as possible without sacrificing its pleasing appearance.

This is achieved in that, according to the invention, a drawer, in particular a bedding drawer, is slidably mounted on the frame of the seat part, a rail preferably being attached to the frame which works together with a sliding block, in particular a roller, which is firmly connected to the drawer.

The novel design of seating and reclining furniture also makes it possible to create space for bedding in one place that is unsuitable for setting up a box. The displaceable arrangement of the bedding drawer also makes it possible to get into the bedding room without having to remove the upholstery. The handling of the drawer is further simplified if a running wheel is attached to the bottom of the drawer, with which the drawer is supported against the floor.

If the furniture according to the invention is to have a seat surface in the seat position which is approximately the same size as the seat surface of a conventional armchair, but offers the largest possible reclining surface, it is advantageous if a frame for an upholstery is pivotably mounted at the front end of the seat part, which rests in the lying position of the furniture on the drawer.

An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is illustrated in more detail in the drawing. It shows :
Fig. 1 the seating and reclining furniture according to the invention in the sitting position in a side view. Fig. 2 is a section through the furniture in the sitting position, with details being shown in more detail. 3 shows a section through the furniture in the lying position with the drawer extended; and FIG. 4 shows a section along the line IV-IV in FIG. 2.

The backrest part, which is pivotably articulated on the frame 1, is designated by 7. Seat part 6 and backrest part 7 are pivotally connected to one another. The frame 5 of the seat part 6 is provided with the known plastic upholstery, which can also be covered with fabric. The pivotable connection between seat part 6 and backrest part 7 is brought about by a screw bolt serving as a bearing pin, which is screwed into the seat part 6 at 8 near the rear end of the side cheeks of the seat part 6 and passes through a link 9 firmly connected to the backrest part 7, at which one end a lever 10 is pivotably mounted, the other end of which is articulated at 11 on the frame 1. In order to move the furniture from the sitting position to the lying position, a forward pull is exerted on the seat part 6 by hand.

In this case, a sliding block or a roller 14 slides in a guide track 13 firmly connected to the frame, so that the seat part 6 is guided during its movement. The guide track 13 encloses an acute angle with a horizontal plane. Due to the special position of the guide track, it is possible that the seat part 6 falls backwards in the seated position (against the backrest part 7) and lies horizontally in the lying position.

A drawer 21 which can be used to hold bedding is slidably mounted on the frame 5 of the seat part 6. At the rear end of the drawer 21 rollers 23 are articulated, which run in rails 22 which are fastened to the frame 5 on both sides of the drawer. Instead of a roller 23 can also be a

Sliding block can be used. To reduce the force required to move the drawer, a roller 25 is mounted on the bottom 24 of the drawer and rests on the floor. Furthermore, at the front end of the seat part 6, a frame for an upholstery 26 can be pivotably mounted, which rests on the drawer 21 in the lying position of the furniture.

In order to move the furniture from the sitting position to the lying position, a forward pull is exerted on the seat part, whereby the seat part 6 is moved into the horizontal position. Then the bedding drawer 21 is pulled and the drawer is moved into its end position shown in FIG. 3, in which the bedding can be removed. Finally, the upholstery 26 is folded forward, after which the furniture is in the position intended for lying down. When moving the furniture back into the sitting position, the upholstery is first folded back and the bedding is placed in the drawer 21. The drawer 21 is then pushed along the rail 22 under the seat part 6. Now the seat part is raised slightly, whereby it executes partly a translatory and partly a rotary movement due to its mounting in the guide track 13 and on the handlebar 18.

At the beginning of this movement, the drawer will pivot about the roller 25 and after the link 18 has passed its dead center it will support the movement of the seat part into the seated position. It is essential here that the roller 25 is in contact with the floor during the entire sequence of movements so that the entire weight of the drawer does not have to be lifted.
