rear end engages around an edge of the running nut, the plastic sleeve at the rear end engaging around the rear end of the inner tube with an inwardly directed edge. By unscrewing the aforementioned pressure nut, the plastic sleeve and the inner tube can be pushed back a little so that they can be released and removed.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing, in which an embodiment of the hand protection according to the invention is shown. In the drawing, Fig. 1 is a side view of the hand guard with part of the barrel, some parts being shown in section, Fig. 2 is a plan view of the sleeve made of plastic, and Fig. 3 is a cross section of the hand guard along the line III-ni in Fig. 1.
On the front end of the barrel 1, the holder 2 for the grain is fixed and this holder is provided with a centering rim 3. The running nut 5 is screwed onto the front end of the housing 4 and presses against a collar 6 of the barrel and clamps the barrel against the housing.
The metal inner tube of the hand protection is divided in the longitudinal direction and consists of two halves 7 and 7 '. The front end of the inner tube '7, 7' is pushed under the centering edge 3 on the holder 2 for the grain and the rear end of the tube has an inwardly bent edge 8, by means of which the tube is centered on the traveling nut 5 and which edge has a possibly interrupted collar 9 of the traveling nut 5 engages. In addition, the inner tube 7, 7 'is secured against turning by a cam 10 on the inside of the centering rim 3.
The inner tube 7, 7 ′ surrounds the barrel 1 with play, so that an air chamber 11 is formed around the barrel and the tube also protects the gas tube 12. The Z entrierrand 13, which also consists of two halves, is attached to the inner tube and between this centering edge and the traveling nut 5 is the sleeve 14 made of plastic, which is also divided in the longitudinal direction and thus consists of two halves. However, the division plane of the sleeve 14 is rotated by 900 relative to the division plane of the inner tube. The front end of the sleeve 14 is pushed under the centering edge 13 of the inner tube 7, 7 'and the rear end of the sleeve 14 engages behind with its edge 15 the inwardly directed edge 8 of the inner tube.
The traveling nut 5 also has an external thread and a pressure nut 16 is screwed onto this thread, which presses against the front end of the sleeve 14 and therefore both presses the sleeve under the centering rim 13 and fixes the inner tube 7, 7 '. To remove the sleeve 14 and the inner tube 7, 7 ', you only need to screw back the nut 16, for which a clearance is provided around the traveling nut 5.
An air chamber 17 is provided between the sleeve 14 and the inner tube 7, 7 '. The part of the inner tube 7, 7 'protruding from the sleeve 14 has relatively large slots 18 so that the relevant part of the barrel is in direct contact with the outside air and therefore excellent cooling of the hottest part of the barrel is guaranteed. At the rear end of the inner tube 7, 7 'and the sleeve 14 there are holes 19 and 20 that cover one another, so that the air chamber 11 is connected to the outside air at this point. The arrangement of the holes 18, 29 and 20 results in air circulation along the barrel, which not only cools the barrel but also the entire hand guard.
