Fig. 3 zeigt denselben ebenfalls

Fig. 4 veranschaulicht die seitliche Einstellbarkeit der Bedeckungsvorrichtung.

Furrow covering device for seed drills
The subject of the present invention is a furrow covering device for seed drills for smoothing the furrow slopes and covering the seed.
There are already known furrow-covering devices for seed drills, which consist of two rearwardly directed arms which are articulated on a horizontal transverse axis on the machine frame. covering members rolling on the ground are arranged at their rear ends. Each cover element consists of a plate disk with a cam-shaped edge, which can be fastened to a tine star, and the furrow cover elements, i. H. the plate washer, simply inevitably push the soil sideways back into the furrow without working through and loosening the soil layers at the same time.
The purpose of the present invention is to act on the plowed soil layers during the movement of the machine in such a way that the most favorable conditions for the germination process are created when the seeds are covered, taking into account the nature of the soil and soil moisture.
According to the invention, this is achieved in that the cover members consist of flat circular disks, which are rotatably mounted on the inner ends of transverse, axially displaceable axle journals on the arms and have a ring of inwardly converging pins against the longitudinal center axis of the machine on their inner sides facing one another . In this way, at the same time as the covering, the pegs work on the earth, the layers of earth being cut through by the inwardly converging pegs. As a result of the converging position of the pins and the possibility of adjusting the circular disks from a position parallel to the direction of travel of the machine in any desired angle, layers of soil of different thicknesses can be achieved over the seeds when the furrows are covered.
The earth is crushed and packed around the seed at the same time. alternatively as a small ridge that favors the drainage of water and prevents the earth from silting up around the seed. The more earth is required over the seed, the greater the angle of the circular disks to the direction of travel, and the closer the circular disks are to each other, the less earth is placed over the seed. Because of their inwardly converging shape, the covering organs can never die. Touch seeds or move them out of their positions after they have been pressed into the earth by the pressure wheel.
In contrast to the previously known covering devices which are arranged behind the coulter of a seed drill and which lay the dry soil lying on the surface over the seeds, in the present invention the moist soil lying below is laid over the seeds in controllable quantities, so that the soil gets a consistency suitable for the germination process.
According to a further feature of the invention, each axle journal is axially displaceable and adjustable in a fitting, which is mounted on the arm so that it can be rotated and locked around a vertical journal. As a result of this adjustability of the cover elements, the device can always be adapted to the nature and moisture of the earth using simple means.
The invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings. Fig. 1 shows the rear part of the seed drill in side view and Fig. 2 in plan view. Fig. 3 also shows the same

in plan view with the covering device in a different position. 4 illustrates the lateral adjustability of the covering device.
Two rearwardly directed arms 7 extend from the seed container, which is not shown in the drawings and is combined with a coulter of the seed drill, between which a pressure wheel 10 for pressing the seeds into the earth is mounted on an axle 11.
At the ends of the axle 11, two laterally non-displaceable rails 13 made of flat iron, pivotable in the vertical direction, are articulated by means of bushings 12 and secured by nuts 9. At the rear, a fitting 19 is rotatably attached to the underside of each rail 13 by means of a vertical pin 25. The fitting 19 has two bolts 20 on the upper side, which engage in circular arc-shaped grooves 21 in the rail 13 and can be secured in these in any position by means of nuts.
In a horizontal hole in each fitting 19, an axially displaceable axle journal 22 is clamped by means of a screw 26. At its inner end, the journal 22 carries a circular disk 23 which has a ring of converging pins 24 on the inside.
As a result of the rotatability of the fittings 19 ′ about the pins 25, the two circular disks 23

pin 22, after the screws 26 have been loosened, are axially displaced in the fittings 19 (FIG. 4), if the working width of the covering device is to be changed. With the last-mentioned device, the circular disks 23 with the pins 24 can, if necessary, also be adjusted in such a way that they together form a lattice drum with an inwardly curved jacket.
The circular disks 23 can thus be set in many different positions by the present construction, so that the device can always be adapted to the nature of the earth and soil moisture in order to be able to cover it. of the seed to move the soil layers in such a way that the most favorable conditions for the germination process are created.
