<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Process for regulating the cooking process in pulp digesters
In order to produce a uniform and perfect quality of sulfite cellulose, there is an ever increasing need to record various factors of the cooking process exactly and to repeat processes in exactly the same way with each cooking, regardless of human errors. This leads to the installation of recording devices for the amount of steam, temperature and pressure as well as the respective cooking acid level in the cooker itself. Substance samples taken from time to time for chemical control of the food during the cooking period. In the further course of the development, the cooking temperatures were recorded according to a certain time program and the amount of steam required for this was regulated according to the temperatures.
Finally, the cooker pressure was either kept constant until the exhaust gas was released or was determined by a program controller according to certain empirical values depending on the time beyond the exhaust gas. All of these automations resulted in a certain sequence of processes according to time, but none of these methods recorded the change in the product itself during the cooking process.
The method according to the invention for automatic cooking now also takes into account the digestion and thus the degree of polymerization of the mass in the digester itself by recording the color of the cooking acid during the cooking process. Experience has shown that the intensification of the color from yellow to dark brown is a measure of the degree of digestion of the food. This so-called "increase in color number" is constantly monitored by a flow-through colorimeter during a certain time of the cooking process. After reaching a size specific for the quality, the exhaust process begins automatically according to a predetermined pressure curve depending on the time and the increase in color that is still recorded.
If the decrease in pressure in the cooker is not in a certain proportion to the increase in color during the flue gas process, this is corrected within certain limits over time and pressure.
The automatic regulation of the cooking process in the case of pulp digesters using program controllers and flow colorimeters takes place according to the invention in that the exhaust gas process is initiated by an end contact of a colorimeter after the temperature profile of the cooked food, which is regulated depending on various quality requirements, after a certain color of the cooking acid has been reached Exhaust gas process, a program controller automatically switches on, which controls the pressure of the cooker according to a preselected pressure curve. The pressure curve in the cooker is controlled by the change in color of the cooking acid in the colorimeter.
The acid color is compared with the voltage value of the pressure via photo cells of the colorimeter as a voltage value via a highly sensitive moving coil relay with differential winding or via a control galvanometer, whereby the comparison of the voltages and thus the change in color is automatically used to influence the preselected time and pressure curve. As a result, the course of the exhaust gas is either delayed or accelerated and thus a color and print condition corresponding to the quality is achieved in the final phase.
According to the invention, the cooking process takes place as follows, for example:
After filling the stove with wood chips and cooking acid, the program drive of the temperature controller is switched on. This receives its impulse from a thermometer, which is best installed in the pressure pipe in the case of forced circulation boiling. At the same time, the temperature profile is also recorded on a recorder for control purposes. When a certain temperature is reached, a certain amount of acid, which is controlled by the acid level sensor, is drained through a valve. Furthermore, after boiling, a time relay opens a valve for the acid to flow through to a colorimeter.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
During the initial and high boiling time, the pressure is either kept constant via a regulator according to previously specified values or regulated according to a program disc and recorded on a recorder. After reaching the specified end temperature, the program disc for temperature and pressure is held at its highest value and a control valve, which leads to the compensation line, is kept closed. In the further course of time, the increase in the color of the cooking acid is checked in the colorimeter. This is done by two photo cells, which are illuminated from a completely constant light source on one side via the acid flow-through glass.
When the differential current between these two photocells has reached its predetermined value ("the color number"), the program disk for printing is activated again and the exhaust process is initiated. The increase in color continues to be registered on a recorder.
A high pressure gas valve opens according to the specified pressure curve. The increase in the acid color is also monitored during the exhaust process and the voltage value of the color is compared with the voltage value of the pressure via a highly sensitive moving coil relay with differential winding or a control galvanometer. This comparison causes a change in the setpoint on the pressure regulator and thus ensures that the acid color influences the exhaust gas curve over time. When the pressure set for the high pressure exhaust process is reached, the high pressure valve closes and the low pressure gas valve opens. At the same time, the acid valve is closed and the acid drain valve is opened at a pressure to be determined during the low-pressure exhaust gas process. The influencing factors of the cooking are thus completed.
