<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Method and device for the precise volume dosing of soft plastic, poorly flowing, edible substances such as margarine, butter and the like. like
EMI1.1
a suitably shaped mouthpiece, a strand of the material is formed from which an exactly identical piece is cut off periodically each time.
According to a known method of this type, a strand is produced by pressing the plastic material out of a mouthpiece under pressure, a cutting device periodically cutting off a piece of the desired length from the strand. However, this method has the disadvantage that the individual cut pieces of rope show more or less major fluctuations in weight, which is undesirable. These weight fluctuations are caused by the pressure with which the
Mass being squeezed out of the extruder die often fluctuates.
These pressure fluctuations influence the exit speed of the strand and thus the different lengths of the pieces that are periodically separated.
Extrusion presses are also already known in which the cutting device is only activated when the emerging strand hits a contact that triggers the actuation of the cutting device after reaching a certain adjustable length. However, a device of this type cannot be used with soft plastic materials, such as margarine or butter, since the strand formed is compressed and deformed in an undesirable manner as a result of its soft consistency when it hits the contact which triggers the actuation of the cutting device.
It has also already been proposed to remedy the problem described by the fact that when the emerging strand hits the trigger contact, the screw serving as a conveyor element stops the latter, whereupon a double cutting device cuts a measured piece out of the strand that has emerged, with the deformed front piece of the strand at the same time is separated as waste. So this device does not work continuously.
The method according to the invention eliminates these disadvantages in that the strand is formed in a known manner by combining in the mouthpiece precisely dosed partial amounts in terms of volume, an amount corresponding to a multiple of the partial amounts being separated from the strand emerging from the mouthpiece each time.
The method can be carried out with the aid of a device which consists of a rotatably mounted, driven molding precisely fitted in a housing, the housing being provided with an inlet mouthpiece and an outlet mouthpiece which are diametrically opposite one another, the molding furthermore having a perpendicular to one another contains its axis of rotation standing channel with a periodically reciprocable piston in it, which channel can be brought into connection with both mouthpieces simultaneously by rotating the shaped piece, the piston executing a stroke, whereby the substance present in the channel is ejected from the shaped piece and at the same time a new amount of substance is measured behind the piston,
and wherein a cutting device for periodically cutting off the strand emerging from the outlet mouthpiece is coupled to the drive device for the rotatable shaped piece. According to the invention, the cutting device is coupled to the drive device of the rotatable shaped piece in such a way that the outlet mouthpiece

emerging strand formed by the combination of precisely dosed partial quantities in terms of volume is only then cut off a quantity after the rotatable fitting has performed at least two half revolutions.
Since the partial quantities dosed precisely according to volume guarantee a largely constant weight and undesired pressure fluctuations or disadvantageous deformations of the strand are avoided, the method according to the invention results in dosed pieces of regular shape whose weight corresponds exactly to a multiple of the weight of the partial quantities dosed per working stroke of the dosing piston.
